Job Description

Job Summary:
The Sawmill Laborer is a full-time position at our facility in New London, NH. The Sawmill Laborer will rotate between various areas of the mill, including the Edger, Gang Resaw, Stenner Resaws, and other production areas as needed. This position supports the safe and efficient flow of lumber through the sawmill. Responsibilities include assisting machine operators, handling and moving lumber and materials, monitoring production flow, maintaining clean work areas, performing general labor, and assisting with other mill operations as needed. The regular hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM-4:00 PM; however, hours and days may vary based on production needs
Duties/Responsibilities:
Keep up with the flow of production and assist in maintaining an efficient operation. Rotate between assigned areas of the mill and perform tasks as directed by management or machine operators. Operate or assist with assigned production equipment and material-handling activities as directed. Handle, move, stack, sort, and organize lumber and other materials as required. Remove lumber, debris, and other materials from production areas to maintain proper flow. Assist with clearing material from around machinery and conveyors in accordance with established safety procedures. Monitor production areas and report equipment problems, material buildup, jams, or other concerns to the appropriate operator or supervisor. Perform routine cleaning and housekeeping around machinery, conveyors, walkways, and work areas. Assist with basic maintenance and other general mill tasks as directed and within the scope of training. Safely use hand tools and other equipment required to perform assigned duties. Maintain a clean, organized, and productive work area. Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and equipment-specific requirements. Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Immediately report unsafe conditions, injuries, equipment concerns, or other hazards to the appropriate supervisor. Work cooperatively with machine operators, supervisors, and other employees to support production. Perform other duties and assignments as directed by management or as necessary to support mill operations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to work safely around industrial machinery, conveyors, lumber, and other production equipment. Ability to learn and safely operate assigned equipment. Ability to work at a steady pace in a fast-paced production environment. Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail. Good judgment and decision-making skills. Ability to recognize and report unsafe conditions or equipment concerns. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills. Ability and willingness to work in different areas of the mill as production needs require. Sawmill experience preferred.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED is preferred. Previous sawmill or lumber manufacturing experience is preferred. Previous operating experience is preferred. Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment is preferred.

Ability to work at a steady pace in a fast-paced production environment. Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail. Good judgment and decision-making skills. Ability to recognize and report unsafe conditions or equipment concerns. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills. Ability and willingness to work in different areas of the mill as production needs require. Sawmill experience preferred.
Work Environment:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Work may involve exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, dust, sawdust, and wood debris. Employees may occasionally work on slippery, wet, uneven, or rough surfaces. Work is performed around saws, resaws, edgers, conveyors, lumber, and other operating machinery. Hearing protection is required in designated areas of the facility. All required PPE must be worn in accordance with company safety policies and procedures. Pay:
$17.00 - $18.00 per hour
