Job Description
Help for Job Description. Opens a new window. Control, dispatch and monitor operation of all company transmission lines, designated distribution points and remotely controlled gas systems. Call out and work with field personnel (MEC and pipeline) to respond to and clear alarms. (30%) Manage remotely controlled pressure and flow points to maintain system integrity using the most economical supply mix. Direct activities of crews during emergency and planned shutdowns of feeder lines or remotely controlled systems. Work with field personnel (MEC and pipeline) and operate the gas system to accommodate construction and maintenance work to the extent possible. (20%) Investigate alarm issues as requested and required by control room management program, prepare control room management program compliance reports, and prepare annual control room management reviews as assigned. (20%) Project short-term daily requirements and assists daily purchaser in determining most economical supply mix. Coordinate daily supply purchasing function on nights, weekends and holidays. (10%) Perform functions to ensure adequate pressure and flow on the company's gas system. Determine need and direct operations of peak shaving plants. (10%) Complete nomination, confirmation and accounting of system supply gas transported on interstate pipelines. Coordinate end-user transportation nominations across the company's system. (10 %) Call out personnel and direct manual regulator adjustments on feeder systems or pipeline tap stations. (0-5%) Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (0-5%) Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques. Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the natural gas transmission and distribution system. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.) Two years relevant work experience. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills to recognize patterns in data, information or events and to draw logical conclusions and make recommendations for action. Ability to support company's position in dealings with pipelines, suppliers and customers. Advanced critical thinking skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time. Flexibility/adaptability to perform a wide range of tasks and to respond to changes in direction and priorities. Must become an OQ qualified and trained gas controller. Effective oral and written communication skills. Skills to use software packages for activities such as creating and/or maintaining spreadsheets and databases.
