Position Overview SLM Water Commission is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Water Plant Operator to join our team in Mascoutah, IL. This is a vital role responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our water treatment facility during the overnight shift (12:00 AM - 8:00 AM). Opportunity to change shifts with seniority as other shifts become available. The ideal candidate takes pride in delivering clean, safe water to the community and consistently meets all regulatory and operational standards. Key Responsibilities Monitor and operate water treatment equipment and systems throughout the overnight shift Conduct regular water quality testing and record accurate operational data Perform routine maintenance and inspections of plant equipment Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local water quality regulations Respond promptly to equipment alarms, malfunctions, or emergencies Maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation of plant operations Communicate shift status and any incidents clearly to incoming staff and supervisors Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, safe working environment Qualifications Required Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all operational tasks Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment during overnight hours Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a safety-conscious workplace Preferred Valid Water Operator License (State of Illinois) Prior experience in water treatment plant operations Familiarity with SCADA systems or similar plant monitoring technology Compensation & Benefits Union position with competitive wages Family health plan (no employee contribution) Individual retirement plan
