We are seeking a Power Plant Operating Engineer to support the Rhode Island Hospital by operating power plant steam turbine generators to produce electricity for hospital functions while ensuring minimal consumption from municipal utilities. Under the general supervision of the Chief Engineer, in this role you will monitor performance of operations by means of gauges and valves, oversee the operation of the boiler room, medical waste autoclave and electrical distribution plant-wide, and perform maintenance and repairs. You will also evaluate turbine performance through vibration and lubrication oil analysis. This is a night shift position with an hourly pay of $38.60-$48.39.

Responsibilities:

Visually inspect Turbine Hall / Boiler Room and check status of all equipment and supplies with Boiler Operator and clean, paint, and perform repairs as needed Monitor the primary switchgear and breaker controls to regulate the amount of electricity produced from each hospital generator and received from municipal utility company Maintain close surveillance of bearing temperatures of generator shafts, oil, pressure and steam pressures, and temperatures to turbogenerators and related valves for indicators of problems, making adjustments to maintain an acceptable range Maintain logs for all gauges and meters and check all pumps, condensers, condensate pumps, condenser circulating pumps and air ejectors Check joints for leaks, lubricate moving parts as necessary and maintain machinery history logs and control room area Add and/or delete generators from operation and move chemical containers associated with water and fuel treatment in power outages, recognizing operational and maintenance procedures as required

Qualifications:

High school diploma/vocational school completion and Stationary Operating Engineer's License from the City of Providence, RI required 5+ years of related experience in power plant operations required; 2+ years of training in boiler operations and turbo-generator operations, either from a technical school or military service Ability to climb ladders to check equipment and make split-second decisions to ensure full and safe operation of steam and electrical distribution Knowledge of the thermodynamics of steam, the principles of generators and electricity, and pertinent regulations Working at Brown University Health As of October 15, 2024, Lifespan is now Brown University Health.
