Camera Operator

Job Description

Position:
Camera Operator Project type: Documentary / unscripted series, Discovery Channel
Location:
Palm Beach County, FL, with travel across Florida (Volusia, Indian River, and additional counties)
Employment:
Freelance / project-based V1 Productions is hiring a Camera Operator for Sky Patrol (working title), a character-driven law-enforcement aerial series for the Discovery Channel, shooting across Florida. This role is dedicated to the aviation unit on the ground. You'll film helicopter takeoffs and landings and capture the elevated aviation and environmental b-roll that frames every aerial story and establishes each county as a character, the coastline, the Everglades, the urban grid at night. By owning this coverage, you keep the field producers free to stay on the units and incidents. It's a great fit for a strong operator with a cinematic eye who is comfortable working airside around aircraft. What you'll do: Film helicopter takeoff and landing sequences and cover the aviation unit on the ground. Capture elevated, composed aviation and environmental b-roll (day and night) to a high cinematic standard. Shoot to the established look so your footage intercuts cleanly with the helicopter package, agency FLIR, and ground/marine POV coverage. Support interview and cinema-package setups as needed, and hand off media to the DIT. Work within controlled areas around running rotors, follow all air-operations safety and agency/Pilot-in-Command instructions, and complete required access training before deploying. What we're looking for: Experienced broadcast or documentary camera operator with a strong sense of composition, exposure, and movement. Comfortable working airside around helicopters; able to complete AOA/SIDA and air-operations safety training; must pass background checks for agency credentialing. Able to match a defined multi-camera look; solid low-light and long-lens skills. Comfortable with long, irregular hours, travel between counties, and shooting in heat, humidity, and remote areas. Reliable, self-sufficient, and calm on an active law-enforcement set.
Nice to have:
aviation/aerial shooting experience; gimbal operation; FAA Part 107 drone cert; cinema-camera systems.
