Job Description

Summary/Objective:
The Prepress Technician is responsible for reviewing proofs of print materials before they go into production. This includes ensuring that text, formatting, and color quality are accurate and ready for print, minimizing errors and rework during the printing process.
Essential Functions:
Review and prepare print jobs, ensuring all digital files are print-ready and conform to quality standard. Verify layouts, fonts, and colors, ensuring they match customer specifications. Operate and troubleshoot prepress software, such as Adobe Creative Suite and preflight software, to correct file issues. Manage workflow to meet production deadlines, prioritizing tasks and coordinating with other departments to ensure smooth operations. Maintain and calibrate prepress equipment, such as proofers and printers, to ensure color accuracy and output quality. Collaborate with customers, sales teams, and production staff to clarify job specifications and ensure alignment on final outputs. Ensure all safety and quality standards are upheld within the prepress department. Assist in developing and implementing prepress operational procedures that optimize productivity and reduce waste. Participate in job cost reviews and ensure all projects stay within time and budget constraints. Stay updated with the latest prepress technologies, trends, and best practices. Provide training to new prepress personnel and support ongoing skills development of existing staff. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, ensuring compliance with company standards. Assist in managing inventory of prepress materials and order supplies as necessary. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Prepress Manager or senior leadership.

Capable of diagnosing and resolving issues related to print jobs and prepress equipment.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external clients.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a high-quality prepress environment. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other industry-standard prepress software. Strong knowledge of print production, color theory, and digital file management.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Arts, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred. Extensive prepress experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Physical Demands:
Regularly required to communicate clearly and listen actively. Frequent use of hands for operating tools, computers, and machinery. Required to stand, walk, and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color accuracy, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Ability to work under pressure with changing priorities and deadlines.
