Job Description

Wood Truss Fabricator / Builder Gravois Truss Company — House Springs, Missouri Full-time | On-site | Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Pay Range | $18.00 - $22.00 About the Position Gravois Truss Company is seeking a dependable, safety-conscious, and hardworking Wood Truss Fabricator to join our small, family-owned business. In this position, you will build custom wooden roof trusses by following truss design drawings and production specifications. You will work with dimensional lumber, metal connector plates, pneumatic tools, and a C-style plate press to assemble trusses accurately and safely. This is a hands-on production position that requires physical strength, careful measurement, consistent attendance, and close teamwork. Previous truss-building experience is helpful but not required. We are willing to train someone who is reliable, mechanically inclined, and willing to learn. Primary Responsibilities Read and follow truss design drawings and production specifications Lay out lumber components according to the dimensions shown on each truss drawing Accurately use and read a tape measure Position top chords, bottom chords, and web members in the correct locations Use compressed-air staple guns to secure truss members during assembly Place metal connector plates correctly at truss joints Operate a C-style plate press to embed connector plates into the lumber Check completed trusses for proper dimensions, plate placement, alignment, and overall quality Safely move, stack, and organize lumber and completed trusses Use a circular saw to make rough cuts or adjustments when needed Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Follow company procedures and all applicable safety requirements Communicate clearly and work closely with other members of the production team Additional Shop Responsibilities Because we operate with a small team, employees may also be asked to assist in other areas of the business, including: Assisting the saw shop with lumber handling, measurements, cuts, and organization Monitoring and organizing metal connector-plate inventory Assisting with lumber counts and inventory organization Helping prepare, stack, and secure truss loads for delivery Loading or unloading lumber, materials, and trusses Cleaning and organizing production and storage areas Performing routine tool and equipment checks Assisting with shop renovations, repairs, improvements, or new additions Supporting other production and yard responsibilities as needed We are continuously working to improve our shop, equipment, organization, and production processes. The right person will be willing to help with these improvements and contribute ideas when appropriate. Required Qualifications Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance Able to arrive on time and be ready to work at the beginning of each shift Able to accurately read and use a tape measure Able to follow drawings, measurements, and written instructions Able to safely lift, carry, position, and control materials weighing up to 100 pounds on a consistent basis, with or without reasonable accommodation Comfortable performing physically demanding work throughout the shift Able to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and handle lumber for extended periods Comfortable using pneumatic staple guns, plate presses, circular saws, and other production tools Willing to follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment Able to work carefully without sacrificing production efficiency Able to communicate and work effectively with a small team Willing to assist outside the primary truss-building duties when needed Able to maintain focus while performing repetitive production tasks Preferred Experience Experience in any of the following areas is helpful but not required: Wood-truss fabrication Carpentry or framing Construction Manufacturing or production Lumber handling Warehouse or material handling Reading construction drawings Operating pneumatic tools Using saws and other woodworking equipment Measuring and cutting dimensional lumber We are willing to train the right person. Reliability, attention to detail, work ethic, and willingness to learn are more important than previous truss-building experience. We manufacture custom wooden roof and floor trusses for residential, commercial, and agricultural projects. Our team currently consists of Five people. Because we are a small company, every employee plays an important role in the quality and success of each project. You will work closely with the people who design, cut, build, sell, and deliver our products. The company is entering its next generation of family leadership, with plans to continue improving, growing, and serving the community for many years to come.
