Job Description

Millwork Finisher Armadillo Woodworks Passaic, NJ Job Details Full-time $30 - $35 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Vision insurance Qualifications Interpersonal skills Schedule management Wood finishing Attention to detail Millwork Polishing Full Job Description Job Overview Armadillo Woodworks is a custom architectural and ornamental woodwork shop serving high-end residential architects and interior designers in the New York market. We work on the kind of projects most millwork shops never see, for clients who notice the difference. We're looking for a skilled Millwork Finisher to join our production team and bring the final layer of craftsmanship to every piece that leaves our shop.

This is an exciting opportunity for a finisher who takes real pride in color, texture, and surface quality to work on custom architectural millwork and cabinetry for some of the finest homes in New York. We are committed to providing a paid position that values your craftsmanship and dedication.

You'll be responsible for prepping, staining, spraying, color-matching, and polishing custom wood components to the highest standard — working independently with minimal oversight while still coordinating closely with the Shop Manager and production team to keep projects on schedule. You'll be the last set of eyes on quality before a piece is considered finished, so a sharp, detail-oriented approach to inspection matters as much as your hands-on finishing skill. Duties Prepare wood surfaces — sanding, filling, and grain conditioning — to ensure a flawless base for finishing. Apply stains, sealers, and topcoats by hand and spray equipment to meet exact project specifications. Match colors precisely against samples, existing finishes, and architectural drawings for seamless consistency across a project. Spray and hand-rub finishes to achieve the specified sheen, texture, and durability. Polish and buff finished pieces to a flawless final surface. Inspect components at each stage for defects, color accuracy, and finish quality, flagging and correcting issues before pieces move forward. Work independently to manage your own finishing schedule while communicating progress and any issues to the Shop Manager. Maintain finishing equipment, spray booths, and work areas in clean, organized, and safe condition. Mix and adjust stains and finishes as needed to hit exact color and sheen targets. Collaborate with the fabrication team to understand project intent and ensure finishes align with design specifications. Support the team in upholding Armadillo Woodworks' standards of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Skills A minimum of 5 years of experience as a finisher in a production millwork, cabinetry, or fine woodworking shop is required, with hands-on proficiency across the full finishing process — prep, staining, spraying, color matching, and polishing. You have a sharp, independent eye for quality control and catch issues before anyone has to point them out. You work well on your own but are a strong team player who takes direction well and communicates clearly with the shop team. You take pride in your craft and understand that in a shop like ours, the details are everything. Benefits 401(k) Dental insurance Health insurance Vision insurance Paid time off Armadillo Woodworks is a place where skilled tradespeople work on projects that matter. If you're a finisher who wants to see your work end up in the finest homes in New York, we'd love to hear from you.
