Job Description
Premier Industrial Group - Weston, Ohio Full-Time | Day Shift | Industrial Manufacturing Premier Industrial Group is looking for a versatile, mechanically skilled Industrial Shop Technician for our Weston facility. This is not a production machining position , and it is not a job where you will stand at one machine all day. We are looking for someone who enjoys variety and is comfortable moving wherever the shop needs help. One day you may machine a repair component on a manual mill or lathe. The next day you may be cutting material on the saw, unloading a steel delivery, assembling a new machine, or tearing down customer equipment for repair. The right person understands that all of those jobs matter. What You'll Do This position will support several areas of our Weston operation, including: Operate horizontal band saws and accurately cut material from prints, cut lists, and work instructions Identify and properly handle carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, alloy steels, and other common industrial materials Operate manual mills and lathes for repair work, modifications, one-off components, drilling, tapping, keyways, and other general machining Read and understand mechanical drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications Use micrometers, calipers, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment Load, unload, move, and stage material using forklifts and overhead cranes Organize raw material, drops, and material racks Pull and stage material for machining and fabrication departments Assemble new industrial machinery and equipment built by Premier Disassemble customer machinery and equipment being repaired or rebuilt Assist with diagnosing worn, damaged, or failed mechanical components during teardown Install and fit bearings, shafts, bushings, sprockets, couplings, gearboxes, motors, guards, and other mechanical components Drill, tap, grind, fit, and modify components as required during assembly Support machinists, fabricators, and other departments when workload requires it Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Who We're Looking For The ideal person is mechanically experienced, dependable, and comfortable doing different types of work throughout the day. You do not need to be a master machinist. You do need enough machining and manufacturing knowledge to understand that cutting the wrong material, missing a dimension, or misreading a print can ruin an expensive part or create significant downstream problems. At the same time, we are looking for someone who does not consider basic shop work beneath them. Running a saw, unloading a truck, moving material, cleaning up a machine, and helping another department are all part of keeping a successful job shop moving. This position may be a strong fit for someone with experience as a: Maintenance machinist Manual machinist Industrial maintenance technician Machine builder Millwright Toolroom machinist Industrial mechanic Repair machinist Tool and die technician Experienced job-shop technician Preferred Experience Industrial manufacturing or job-shop experience Manual mill and lathe experience Ability to read mechanical prints Experience using precision measuring equipment Mechanical assembly and equipment teardown experience Forklift and overhead crane experience Strong understanding of basic machining and fabrication processes Experience working independently and solving mechanical problems What Matters Most to Us We are looking for someone with good mechanical judgment who takes pride in doing things correctly. We would rather hire a well-rounded industrial person who can safely and accurately handle many different responsibilities than someone who is highly specialized but only wants to perform one type of work. You should be comfortable with a day that might include machining a repair part in the morning, unloading steel before lunch, running the saw in the afternoon, and helping assemble a machine before the end of the day. If that type of variety sounds appealing rather than frustrating, you may be a very good fit for this position. About Premier Industrial Group Premier Industrial Group is a Northwest Ohio industrial manufacturing and service company specializing in CNC machining, fabrication, machinery design and build, industrial repair, and field service. Our Weston facility handles a wide variety of custom and repair work rather than repetitive high-volume production. Employees regularly work on different parts, machines, materials, and customer problems. We are looking for someone who wants to become an important, dependable part of that operation.
