The Paint Line Supervisor is responsible for overseeing paint line and wastewater operations at AFCO's Alexandria facility with a safety-first mindset. This role drives high-quality standards, improves productivity, develops lead team members and operators across both shifts, and increases line density through strong leadership, process discipline, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is an experienced production leader who can hold a team accountable while building capability and sustaining a culture of safety and quality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production Operations & Planning Execute the daily production plan by assigning personnel, setting priorities, monitoring progress, resolving issues, and driving productivity while maintaining safety and quality standards Coordinate with Scheduling daily to ensure proper production requirements are met Monitor all systems to ensure a smooth flow of materials through the production process; work with the Paint Technician, Materials Coordinator, and Lead Person to ensure proper working order Balance safety, quality, productivity, cost, and morale to achieve strong results while holding the team accountable to department goals Learn and utilize AFCO ERP and AFCO-specific programs for continuous information feedback to other departments Coordinate activities with other plant departments to improve teamwork and support the efficient flow of materials and personnel through the facility Quality & Continuous Improvement Improve and sustain quality standards by training employees to defined processes, enforcing process discipline, monitoring defects, and addressing repeat issues at the source Work within the guidelines of the quality program and ensure all team members understand and follow required quality standards Lead continuous improvement efforts focused on safer work practices, improved quality performance, stronger productivity, reduced waste, and increased line density Manage department performance measures, including visual controls, and provide regular progress reports to the Plant Manager Review processes and procedures to ensure daily, weekly, and monthly checks are completed on time and properly Equipment & Maintenance Monitor all equipment and ensure routine maintenance is being completed; communicate major breakdowns to appropriate managers and maintenance personnel to ensure timely corrective action Review equipment for updates or maintenance needs to ensure efficient, consistent operation Team Leadership & Development Train, coach, and develop employees at all levels, including lead team members, to ensure consistent expectations, skills, and performance across both shifts Recruit, select, orient, and train employees to meet daily production requirements, strengthen bench depth, support advancement within the department, and ensure consistent capability across both shifts Manage personnel requirements including accidents, absenteeism, timekeeping, quality concerns, and employee time in the company's timekeeping system Work days, nights, or split shifts as required to meet staffing needs, support both shifts, and ensure production requirements are met Safety, Compliance & Housekeeping Put safety first on every job by following and enforcing all company safety rules, policies, and procedures Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment by setting clear safety expectations, training personnel, enforcing safety policies, and correcting unsafe behaviors or conditions immediately Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemical materials in compliance with OSHA HazCom, SDS requirements, and applicable environmental regulations Ensure good housekeeping is maintained throughout the work area Report problems or accidents to management immediately Perform related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Required 5+ years of supervisory experience in a production or manufacturing environment Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and hold accountable a team across multiple shifts Knowledge of safety standards, quality systems, production flow, and continuous improvement practices Ability to communicate clearly using written, verbal, and electronic communication tools Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook High school diploma or GED required Preferred Experience in a paint line, coating, or chemical process environment Mechanical aptitude or related technical experience Familiarity with OSHA HazCom standards and chemical safety requirements Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment Alternative to Minimum Qualifications None — minimum qualifications as stated above are required.
