Production Manager - Scenic Fabrication & Live Events

Job Description

Joshua Warner Studios is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee scenic fabrication and live-event projects from approved estimate through installation and strike. This is a hands-on production leadership position—not primarily an administrative role. The Project Manager will turn creative designs and approved scopes into clear, achievable production plans; coordinate drafting, procurement, labor, fabrication, finishing, transportation, and installation; and ensure the team has the information and resources needed to meet each deadline.
ABOUT JOSHUA WARNER STUDIOS
Joshua Warner Studios is a design and fabrication studio in Jamaica, Queens, serving theatre, live events, retail installations, and experiential projects. Our work ranges from detailed theatrical scenery to fast-moving event builds and installations throughout New York City and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Take ownership of projects following estimate approval and internal handoff Review scope, drawings, budget, schedule, installation requirements, and client expectations Develop and maintain realistic project schedules, labor plans, and production priorities Lead project kickoff meetings and communicate clear assignments, deadlines, and deliverables Coordinate with drafting to ensure build drawings, material specifications, and piece lists are complete Coordinate procurement and confirm that materials, rentals, specialty vendors, trucking, and labor are secured on time Direct the Shop Foreman and department leads on daily and weekly production priorities Track progress against labor hours, material allowances, and project deadlines Identify risks early, propose solutions, and escalate decisions before they become emergencies Conduct regular quality-control checks throughout fabrication and finishing Prepare load-in, installation, delivery, and strike plans Maintain accurate project information and task ownership in Airtable and shared calendars Communicate professionally with designers, vendors, venues, production teams, and clients Lead post-project reviews comparing estimated costs and hours with actual results
THE RIGHT CANDIDATE
You are a calm, decisive production leader who can see beyond today's work call. You understand how scenery gets built, but you also know that successful production depends on planning, communication, follow-through, and clear accountability. You should be comfortable making decisions, assigning work, holding team members accountable, and adapting the production plan when conditions change. You do not wait until a deadline is in danger to raise a concern.
QUALIFICATIONS
Professional experience in scenic fabrication, technical direction, production management, event fabrication, or a closely related field Strong working knowledge of theatrical or event construction processes, materials, finishing, logistics, and installation Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects, crews, vendors, schedules, and budgets simultaneously Ability to interpret design drawings and technical drawings Strong leadership, delegation, and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication Confidence using project-management systems, shared calendars, spreadsheets, and digital communication tools Ability to work on site in Jamaica, Queens, and attend installations throughout the New York City area Availability for occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends, and travel as production schedules require Valid driver's license preferred
COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
$37-40 per hour, commensurate with experience W-2 hourly position Schedule will fluctuate with the studio's active production calendar Primary work location: Jamaica, Queens, with local site visits and installations as required

Pay:
$37.00 - $40.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 - 35.0 per week
