Job Description
Overview We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Fabrication Shop Manager to lead our metal fabrication team. In this dynamic role, you will oversee daily manufacturing operations, ensuring that fabrication processes meet quality standards, safety protocols, and project deadlines. Your expertise in mechanical fabrication, welding techniques, and blueprint interpretation will drive efficiency and excellence on the shop floor. Duties Supervise and coordinate fabrication activities including sheet metal work, assembly, machining, plasma cutting, and welding operations. Ensure all team members adhere to safety protocols and industry standards such as AWS (American Welding Society) guidelines. Interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings accurately to guide fabrication processes. Oversee the use of measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, shop math calculations, and other precision tools to maintain quality control. Assign tasks involving power tools, hand tools, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), TIG welding, MIG welding, FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), and stick welding to team members based on skill level. Monitor fabrication shop operations to optimize workflow efficiency and ensure timely completion of projects. Conduct regular inspections of fabricated components for compliance with specifications and quality standards. Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) Extensive construction site experience with a strong understanding of metal materials and sheet metal fabrication techniques. Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and mechanical blueprints with precision. Skilled in using measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and other shop math tools for accurate measurements. Hands-on experience with welding techniques including SMAW, TIG, MIG, FCAW, and GMAW in accordance with AWS standards. Knowledge of construction processes involving machining, plasma cutting, assembly, and mechanical fabrication. Ability to operate power tools safely and efficiently while maintaining high quality standards. Strong mechanical knowledge combined with the ability to interpret technical specifications for fabrication projects. Familiarity with safety protocols related to metal fabrication shops and construction sites to ensure a safe working environment. Experience supervising teams in a fast-paced manufacturing or fabrication setting with a focus on continuous improvement.
