Job Description
Thiele Kaolin Company 520 Kaolin Road Sandersville, Georgia 31082 478-552-3951 Employment Opportunity Filter Operator Thiele Kaolin Company, a leading provider of tailored mineral solutions, is currently recruiting for a Filter Operator. This position is located in Deepstep, Georgia.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Operate filters and associated equipment
- Attend Production meetings (day shift - weekdays) prepared to discuss issues/process status (safety issues, filter tonnage/return solids, vacuum readings, filtrate solids, clarifier performance, maintenance needs, etc)
- Do buildings walk through and inspect equipment for proper operation i.e. spills unusual noise etc.
- Monitor tank levels B tanks and S tanks and chemicals used in filtration
- Monitor filters on computer screens
- Monitor filter vacuum and filter clarifiers
- Monitor pumps, chemical levels, tonnage rates, chemical flows,
- Buff in pH machine at beginning of shift and record on pH sheet
- Check pH and keep in set tolerances; check solids, feed and return
- Take feed and return sample to lab to cross check against filter checks
- Check filter filtrates, if high check filters for holes (repair if possible) and report
- Check conductivity on Filter cake, record on daily sheets required information
- Operate filter filtrate clarifiers, notify supervisor of any problems and have resolved in a timely manner
- Notify floc and leach operator when changes are made so he can maintain B tank levels and grades
- Change grades of clay on filters as directed by supervisor or shift line up
- Relay changes to supervisor or his designee so correct filter product lines can be set to correct tanks
- Monitor filters and equipment for any problems i.e. holes in cloths, etc.
- Maintain heat exchangers, wash out as needed to keep at optimum performance
- Clean any type of feed baskets, screens, or socks
- Wash filters and grease up (if required)
- Enter information into Plant Data
- Maintain peroxide system and verify correct addition rates
- Assign task to designated helper
- Maintain and follow accurate Filter operator work procedures
SKILL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of filter lines, how to set up, and set valves
- Knowledge of tanks and grades of clay
- Ability to start up and shut down filters, pumps and associated equipment
- Ability to mix chemical according to grade
- Know Quality Policy, in process product specifications, how to access white and message boards, Thiele's basic safety rules, how to access and use SDS system, how to access and use Plant Data, Site Specific Hazard Awareness, tag and lockout procedures, confined space procedures, how to use hand tools, quality goals and objectives and how your job affects this
- Attend any required MSHA training; attend any required Thiele training
- Work with little or no supervision and work well with others
- Train on next job level
- Understand MSHA rules and regulations, perform good housekeeping, wear and use proper PPE, perform work place inspections and pre-shift inspections (mobile equipment) Thiele offers excellent pay and a comprehensive fringe benefits package.
