Job Title:

Assembly Manufacturing Engineer

Davenport, IA 52809 (100% Onsite)

Pay Rate:

$37.00

•$40.00 per hour on W2

Duration:

12 Months Contract (High potential for extension)

•Friday | 6:00 AM

•2:30 PM (5-8 hours OT as production demands require) Job Summary We are seeking an action-oriented Assembly Manufacturing Engineer to join our Order Fulfillment Process (OFP) engineering team in Davenport, IA. In this hands-on, shop-floor integrated role supporting the Loader Cabs Assembly Line for heavy construction and forestry machinery, you will troubleshoot live assembly processes, eliminate production bottlenecks, and maintain daily build targets. Working directly alongside assembly line operators, maintenance technicians, quality engineers, and plant leadership, you will author standard work documentation (SOE/OMS), optimize workstation layouts, integrate assembly fixturing, and lead continuous improvement projects focused on safety, ergonomics, defect prevention, and cycle-time reduction.

Key Responsibilities Shop-Floor Line Support:

Provide active, hands-on manufacturing engineering troubleshooting directly on the Loader Cabs assembly line to resolve mechanical fit issues and keep production running smoothly.

Standard Work & Line Balancing:

Establish, maintain, and update workstation ergonomic layouts, labor standards, Operator Methods Sheets (OMS), and Sequences of Events (SOE). Continuous Improvement (CI): Identify, design, and implement engineering solutions that eliminate assembly safety hazards, reduce operator strain/ergonomic risk, eliminate scrap, and balance line cycle times.

Tooling & Small Capital Projects:

Lead small-to-moderate tooling modifications, assembly fixture integrations, and new manufacturing equipment rollouts across cab workstations.

Process Systems & Controls:

Utilize plant Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and engineering databases to manage routing changes, update work instructions, and track assembly quality.

Cross-Functional Teaming:

Partner closely with front-line wage operators, skilled trades, tooling leads, and design engineering to drive rapid root-cause problem solving.

Required Qualifications Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical work experience.

Experience:

1+ years of manufacturing or assembly engineering experience in a fast-paced production environment (relevant engineering co-op or internship experience will be considered) .

Assembly Process Acumen:

Practical understanding of assembly workflows, workstation tooling, line balancing, and preventative maintenance concepts.

Standard Work Knowledge:

Hands-on experience developing or maintaining Sequences of Events (SOE), time studies, labor standards, or work center documentation.

Floor Collaboration:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with hourly production teams, technical trades, and cross-functional leadership.

Safety & PPE:

Must possess and wear standard manufacturing safety shoes/boots on Day 1 along with required plant PPE.

Preferred Qualifications Prior manufacturing engineering experience with vehicle cab assembly, heavy equipment, agricultural machinery, or automotive build lines. Experience utilizing smart DC electric torque tooling (e.g., Atlas Copco, Ingersoll Rand) and error-proofing (Poka-Yoke) fixturing. Working knowledge of enterprise SAP and plant Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). Familiarity with Lean manufacturing tools, 5S, Kaizen events, and ergonomic risk assessments.
