Midwest Metal Products, Inc. is looking for Production Shop Operators to join our team in Michigan City, Indiana. You'll learn multiple production skills, work with a variety of equipment, and have a clear path to increase your pay as you build your capabilities. About Company Midwest Metal Products, Inc. is a locally family-owned, Just-In-Time manufacturer in Michigan City, Indiana. Our clean, air-conditioned manufacturing facility produces steel components through a variety of processes, including bending, cutting, welding, and punching. Our production team works together to keep orders moving safely and efficiently. Team members are trained across the production process, including packing and shipping, so you can build a broad understanding of how our operation works. Role and Responsibilities As a Production Shop Operator, you'll work across different tasks and machines throughout your shift. You'll operate equipment used to bend, cut, weld, and punch steel while following direction from line leaders and established safety and production procedures. You'll learn multiple production skills and gradually become proficient in each one. Everyone also contributes to maintaining a clean and organized shop and may be trained in packing and shipping. The role requires dependable attendance, reliable transportation, the ability to stay focused on assigned work, and a willingness to step in where help is needed. You'll work as part of a team in a Just-In-Time manufacturing environment where keeping production moving safely and efficiently matters.

Key responsibilities include:

Safely operate a variety of production machines and equipment. Bend, cut, weld, and punch steel according to production requirements. Learn and become proficient in multiple production skills. Follow direction from line leaders and work cooperatively with teammates. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Assist with packing and shipping as part of cross-training. Lift up to 50 pounds as required by the work. Complete available training for forklift and overhead crane operation. Day in the Life You start your shift ready to contribute to the day's production goals. Depending on your training and assigned work, you may operate a machine, work on a steel component, assist with packing and shipping, or learn another production skill. Throughout the shift, you work with your teammates and line leaders to keep work moving safely and efficiently. You may spend part of the day focused independently on your assigned machine and another part helping where the team needs support. As you develop your skills, you take on additional responsibilities and work toward mastering the next skill in the production program. Your progress is recognized through pay increases tied to the specific skills you successfully attain. You work in a clean, air-conditioned manufacturing facility. The regular schedule consists of 10-hour shifts, with mandatory weekend work every other weekend as needed. After one to four months on day shift, employees rotate to a four-week night-shift assignment. Night shift has no weekend work requirement and includes a $3 per hour pay differential . Permanent night shifts are also available after training. Who You Are You're dependable, willing to learn, and comfortable working as part of a production team. You take safety seriously, follow direction, stay focused on your work, and are willing to learn different tasks throughout the production process.

You bring:

Manufacturing experience — Previous manufacturing experience is required; machine-operation experience is preferred. Reliability — You can consistently arrive for scheduled shifts and have reliable transportation. A learning mindset — You're interested in developing new production skills and taking on additional responsibilities. Safety and quality focus — You follow procedures, operate equipment responsibly, and help maintain a clean work environment. We Offer Starting pay of $20/hour , with an opportunity to reach $21/hour within the first month after mastering the first two skills. Skill-based pay increases of $0.50-$1.50/hour as you become proficient in additional production skills. A clear progression path to $26/hour for employees who successfully develop the required skills. $3/hour night-shift differential during four-week night-shift assignments.
