Stockroom Coordinator
Job Description
Position Summary The Stockroom Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the garment stockroom and ensuring garments are available, processed, and prepared according to production and customer requirements. This position supports the garment business by maintaining accurate garment inventory, coordinating garment orders and requests, monitoring workflow, and ensuring garments move through the stockroom accurately and efficiently. The Stockroom Coordinator also leads the department's 6S priorities and efficiency projects to improve safety, organization, productivity, quality, and garment flow. The Stockroom Coordinator works closely with Production, Service and Sales, Customer Happiness, Supply Chain, and other departments to ensure new accounts, wearer additions, size changes, replacements, and other garment requests are completed correctly and on time. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Garment Stockroom Operations Coordinate the daily workflow and priorities of the garment stockroom. Receive, verify, organize, and store new and used garments. Ensure garments are placed in the correct locations by style, color, size, and other identifying information. Maintain an organized stockroom that allows garments to be located and issued efficiently. Pull garments needed for new accounts, wearer additions, size changes, replacements, and other customer requests. Stage garments for the next production step, such as emblem application, alterations, barcoding and identification or route assign. Confirm garments and quantities match the applicable order or request before they leave the stockroom. Ensure completed garments are routed to the correct department, route, account, or production area. Monitor incomplete or delayed garment requests and follow up until they are resolved. Track garments issued, transferred, returned, reused, or removed from service. Separate garments according to condition, including new, reusable, repairable, or unusable garments. Help maintain appropriate inventory levels based on garment usage and production needs. Balance daily priorities based on customer needs, production schedules, and available inventory. Support established quality-control procedures and customer requirements. Balance a focus on order accuracy and quality with speed and efficiency. Coordinate garment stockroom priorities with the daily production schedule. Communicate with Production, Service and Sales, Customer Happiness and Supply Chain regarding garment availability and order status. Maintain an orderly flow of work to prevent delays and backlogs. Adjust work priorities when urgent production or customer needs arise. Participate in production meetings and communicate stockroom concerns, needs, and progress. 6S Leadership and Priorities Lead and maintain the stockroom's 6S program: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety. Establish clear locations and visual controls for garments, supplies, equipment, carts, and work-in-process. Maintain labeling standards for garment styles, colors, sizes, inventory locations, and workflow areas. Identify and remove unnecessary, obsolete, damaged, or improperly stored items from the work area. Develop and maintain cleaning, inspection, and organization schedules. Ensure workstations, storage areas, aisles, exits, and access to emergency equipment remain clean and unobstructed. Establish standard work practices that support consistent organization and efficient garment handling. Conduct routine 6S inspections or audits and document identified concerns. Assign corrective actions, monitor progress, and follow through until concerns are resolved. Involve employees in identifying 6S opportunities and maintaining department standards. Use department communication boards to display 6S priorities, audit results, action items, and completed improvements. Reinforce 6S expectations through daily employee communication, coaching, and follow-up. Ensure improvements are sustained after implementation and do not become temporary fixes. Efficiency and Continuous Improvement Projects Identify opportunities to improve garment flow, productivity, accuracy, ergonomics, and use of available space. Lead or participate in projects that reduce unnecessary movement, handling, searching, waiting, rework, and backlogs. Evaluate stockroom layout and recommend improvements to garment storage, workstations, staging areas, and workflow. Review current processes and help develop simpler, safer, and more consistent work methods. Create and maintain standard work instructions for key stockroom processes. Gather employee feedback and encourage team participation in improvement projects. Track project goals, assigned actions, completion dates, and results. Measure completed projects using appropriate metrics, such as productivity, processing time, backlog, order accuracy, garment availability, or space utilization. Work with plant leadership and other departments when an improvement affects multiple areas of the operation. Help test new processes, equipment, storage methods, or technologies before full implementation. Train employees on approved process changes and verify that new procedures are followed. Review completed projects to confirm improvements are effective and sustained. Provide regular updates on current efficiency projects, obstacles, and completed improvements. Maintain a list of future improvement opportunities based on operational needs and employee suggestions. Team Coordination Assign and coordinate daily stockroom tasks based on workload and production priorities. Provide employees with clear work instructions and expectations. Train employees on garment identification, inventory procedures, quality requirements, standard work, 6S, and safe work practices. Monitor work for accuracy, productivity, and completion. Provide coaching and feedback when procedures are not followed. Communicate staffing, training, performance, or workflow concerns to the appropriate manager. Promote teamwork between the stockroom and other production departments. Provide hands-on assistance when needed to maintain workflow and meet production requirements. Ensure employees use required personal protective equipment. Follow proper lifting, material-handling, and equipment-use procedures. Store garments and materials safely to prevent falling items, damage, and workplace injuries. Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, injuries, and incidents promptly. Participate in safety meetings, inspections, investigations, and corrective actions. Consider employee safety and ergonomics when planning layouts, workstations, and process improvements. Documentation and Reporting Update production systems, spreadsheets, or tracking tools as required to maintain accurate records. Track stockroom accuracy, productivity, backlog, quality, 6S results, and other assigned performance measures. Maintain documentation for efficiency projects and corrective-action items. Complete required reports accurately and on time. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in an industrial laundry, garment operation, stockroom, distribution, or production environment preferred. Previous experience coordinating workflow or providing team direction preferred. Previous sewing experience preferred. Experience with 6S, Lean manufacturing, standard work, or continuous improvement is beneficial. Familiarity with garment styles, sizes, colors, and identification methods is beneficial. Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Excel, email, and production or inventory systems. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to prioritize multiple requests in a fast-paced production environment. Ability to communicate effectively with employees and other departments. Ability to identify problems, develop practical solutions, and follow projects through completion. Ability to work independently while contributing to the overall production team. Dependable attendance and consistent follow-through are required. Physical Requirements Regularly stand and walk for extended periods. Frequently bend, reach, push, pull, and handle garments or garment bundles. Ability to lift and carry up to [35/50] pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment. Ability to move carts, garment racks, bins, and other production materials. Ability to work in the heat, humidity, noise, and other conditions commonly found in an industrial laundry plant. Ability to perform repetitive garment-handling activities safely and accurately. Performance Expectations Successful performance in this position includes: Garment orders are completed accurately and on time. Garment inventory records are accurate and properly maintained. Shortages and potential delays are identified and communicated early. Garments are stored, pulled, staged, and issued correctly. Stockroom workflow supports production and customer-service requirements. Employees understand daily priorities and follow established procedures. Quality problems and inventory discrepancies are addressed promptly. The stockroom consistently meets established safety and 6S standards. 6S audit findings and corrective actions are completed promptly. Efficiency projects produce measurable and sustainable improvements. Standard work is documented, communicated, and consistently followed. Backlogs, rework, lost garments, unnecessary handling, and order errors are minimized. Communication with Production, Service, Customer Service, and Route Operations is timely and effective.
