full-time United Contractors Midwest (UCM) HMA Quality Control Technician (Hourly) - Job Description Summary The Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring the quality and compliance of HMA through laboratory and field testing. This role supports plant operations and field crews by performing sampling, testing, and documentation to verify materials that meet project specifications. The technician works closely with plant operators, project teams, and IDOT personnel to maintain consistent product quality and smooth project execution. Why UCM? Responsibilities Perform laboratory testing of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) to ensure compliance with project specifications. Collect and sample HMA at asphalt plant locations and active job sites. Conduct field testing of HMA properties during paving operations. Document and report test results accurately and in a timely manner. Coordinate with plant operators and field personnel to maintain consistent production and quality. Communicate test results and any quality concerns to project teams and supervisors. Work closely with IDOT personnel to ensure adherence to specifications and testing standards. Maintain and calibrate testing equipment in accordance with industry standards. Assist in troubleshooting mix or production issues as needed. Follow all safety procedures and quality control protocols. Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or degree in construction, engineering, or related field preferred. Field experience without education is also valued. Experience in asphalt, construction materials testing, or heavy civil construction preferred. Familiarity with IDOT specifications and testing procedures is a plus. Certifications such as
IDOT HMA
Level I/II or willingness to obtain if needed. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document results. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office or similar). Ability to work in both laboratory and outdoor field environments. Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, or weekends as needed during paving season. Strong organization, communication, and time management skills. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
