OD Coating QC Technician -

FBE Coating Plant-Swing Shift Location:

Steelton, PA Position Summary The OD Coating QC Technician is responsible for performing quality control inspections, laboratory testing, process audits, and documentation associated with the application of Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) coating on steel pipe. This position works closely with production, quality, and shipping personnel to ensure coating operations meet customer specifications, internal quality standards, and applicable industry requirements. The technician will provide day-to-day oversight of coating quality from incoming material through coating application, testing, inspection, and final rail-car loading. Primary Responsibilities Review and understand daily production schedules, customer data sheets, and job requirements. Review and interpret customer coating specifications and applicable quality requirements. Audit and document daily operating data from coating plant equipment and production processes. Monitor and audit the FBE coating application process to verify compliance with required process parameters. Perform all required laboratory testing necessary to complete daily coating sample requirements. Accurately record laboratory test results and maintain required quality documentation. Monitor and inspect coating condition, steel surface condition, and grind/repair areas. Monitor and document inbound steel pipe and other applicable incoming materials. Inspect finished pipe for coating quality and compliance with customer requirements. Monitor and audit final pipe handling and rail-car loading to help prevent coating damage and verify product quality before shipment. Identify coating defects, process deviations, or nonconforming material and communicate issues to Quality and Production supervision. Assist with investigations and corrective actions related to coating quality issues. Maintain traceability of samples, testing records, and production documentation. Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, testing areas, and workspaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition. Follow all plant safety, quality, and environmental procedures. Perform other quality-related duties as required to support coating plant operations. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Previous quality control, laboratory, coating, steel pipe, or heavy manufacturing experience preferred. Experience with Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE), industrial coatings, or steel pipe manufacturing is preferred. Ability to read, understand, and apply customer specifications, procedures, work instructions, and technical requirements. Ability to accurately perform measurements, testing, inspections, and documentation. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify coating defects or process abnormalities. Basic computer skills and ability to enter and maintain accurate production and quality records. Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with Quality, Production, Maintenance, and Shipping personnel. Must obtain company-required AMPP certification within 12 months of hire. Existing AMPP coating inspection certification is a plus. Must be able to work in an industrial manufacturing environment and support the production schedule, including overtime when required. The employee must be able to walk throughout the coating plant, inspect pipe and production equipment, handle testing equipment and samples, and work around industrial machinery, heat, dust, noise, and coating operations while wearing required personal protective equipment.

$31.00 per hour
