This is a hands-on, production-floor role that reports to the Quality Assurance Supervisor. It is an ideal entry point for someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable working in a food plant environment, and interested in building a career in food quality and safety. Training in our food safety program, testing methods, and documentation procedures is provided. Key Responsibilities Perform scheduled inspections of raw materials, packaging, and finished product for weight, temperature, appearance, labeling, code dating, and seal integrity. Conduct routine in-process checks (e.g., temperature, pH, moisture, metal detection/X-ray verification, net weight) and record results accurately and on time. Collect and label product and environmental samples for microbiological and analytical testing; prepare samples for third-party lab shipment when required. Verify Critical Control Points (CCPs) and prerequisite programs under the HACCP / Food Safety Plan and immediately escalate deviations to the QA Supervisor. Perform pre-operational and sanitation verification inspections, including ATP swabbing and visual checks, and document findings. Complete and maintain quality records (checklists, logs, hold tags, non-conformance reports) legibly and in compliance with Good Documentation Practices. Place product on hold when specifications are not met, tag and segregate affected product, and assist with root-cause investigation and corrective actions. Calibrate and verify inspection equipment (thermometers, scales, pH meters) according to schedule. Monitor and reinforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), allergen controls, and personal hygiene requirements on the production floor. Support internal audits and customer or regulatory inspections (FDA, USDA, SQF/BRCGS, customer audits) by pulling records and assisting the QA team. Communicate clearly with production supervisors and line workers about quality issues in a respectful, solution-focused manner. Perform other duties as assigned to support quality and food safety objectives. Required Qualifications High school diploma or
GED. 1-2
years of experience in a food manufacturing, laboratory, warehouse, or other production environment. Recent graduates and candidates with related coursework are encouraged to apply. Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow written procedures precisely. Basic math skills (weights, measures, percentages, unit conversions) and the ability to read specifications. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English; bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred. Basic computer skills, including data entry and Microsoft Excel/Word. Willingness to work in cold, wet, or warm environments and around food allergens. Availability to work assigned shift, including some weekends, overtime, and holidays as production requires. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree or coursework in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field. Texas Food Handler or Food Manager certification. Familiarity with HACCP, GMPs, SQF, BRCGS, or FSMA requirements. Prior experience with lab equipment, sampling, or inspection documentation. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Stand and walk for extended periods on a production floor; frequent bending, reaching, and climbing of stairs or platforms. Work in refrigerated or heated areas and in wet conditions with moderate noise. Wear required personal protective equipment (hairnet, face mask, gloves, safety shoes).
