We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Toolmaker / Mold Maker specializing in investment casting tooling. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, altering, and repairing mechanical molds, dies, and wax injection tooling. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of investment casting processes, shrink rates, and high-precision machining to ensure the production of top-quality components.
Key Responsibilities:
Construct, modify, and repair complex wax injection molds, core boxes, and auxiliary tooling from blueprints, CAD models, and sketches. Set up and operate conventional and CNC machine tools, including mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM machines, to fabricate precise mold components. Analyze engineering drawings and calculate dimensions, tolerances, and shrinkage allowances specific to investment casting materials. Troubleshoot tooling issues on the production floor, identifying root causes for wax pattern defects or dimensional inconsistencies. Perform precision hand-fitting, polishing, and assembly of mold components to achieve required surface finishes and tight tolerances. Inspect completed tooling using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and CMM data to verify compliance with specifications. Collaborate with engineering and foundry teams to optimize tooling designs for manufacturing efficiency and long-term durability.
Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a formal tool and die apprenticeship or technical degree is highly preferred. Proven experience as a mold maker or toolmaker, with specific expertise in wax injection tooling for investment casting. Proficient in reading and interpreting complex engineering blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Strong manual machining skills and familiarity with CNC programming or operation. Experience with EDM (sinker or wire) is a significant asset. Ability to work with tight tolerances, often within +/- 0.0005 inches. Proficiency or familiarity with CAD/CAM software (such as Mastercam, SolidWorks, or NX) for reviewing designs. Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.
Pay:
From $25.00 per hour Expected hours: No less than 45.0 per week
