The Water Treatment Operator performs a variety of duties related to the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and repair of the District's water treatment and distribution systems. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals seeking a career in the water utility industry. The employee will receive on-the-job training while working toward obtaining and maintaining California State Water Resources Control Board certifications. This is a Part-time position that can turn into a full-time position after 3 months with the right candidate. The ideal candidate is dependable, self-motivated, safety-conscious, mechanically inclined, and willing to learn all aspects of water treatment and distribution operations. Responsibilities Assist with the operation of the water treatment plant to ensure safe, reliable drinking water. Monitor treatment processes and record operational data. Inspect treatment equipment, pumps, valves, tanks, and pipelines. Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on treatment and distribution equipment. Read, inspect, and maintain water meters. Assist with locating and repairing water main leaks. Flush water mains and hydrants. Maintain accurate operational logs and maintenance records. Respond to customer service requests regarding water service. Participate in emergency repairs, after-hours callouts, and natural disaster response as needed. Operate equipment, and hand tools safely. Maintain treatment facilities, pump stations, and District property in a clean and orderly condition. Follow all safety policies, regulations, and standard operating procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned. Clean Community Hall and bathrooms for renters. Yard and brush maintenance at the CSD's properties and assets. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or construction experience is a plus Basic math skills for data analysis and process adjustments Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and perform heavy lifting when required or willing to learn Strong attention to detail with good analysis skills for troubleshooting issues Willingness to learn about water treatment processes, safety regulations, environmental compliance, and equipment repair Prior experience working in the energy & utilities sector or wastewater treatment plant experience is advantageous but not mandatory Demonstrated commitment to safety practices including PPE use and adherence to safety regulations Working Conditions Work is performed both indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions. The position may require exposure to water treatment chemicals, loud equipment, confined spaces, and moving machinery. Employees must follow all OSHA and District safety requirements. Work Schedule Probationary period for 3 months, before becoming full-time. Monday through Friday. Participation in an on-call rotation after successful completion of training. Overtime and emergency response may be required as needed.
