Job Description

The Bloomington and Normal Water Reclamation District (BNWRD) is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join our team as a full-time Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator . Individuals with backgrounds in industrial operations, manufacturing, farming, equipment operation, mechanical maintenance, utilities, sciences, and field or laboratory work are also encouraged to apply, as many of these skills transfer well to wastewater treatment operations. Every day, you help safeguard local rivers and streams by ensuring wastewater is properly treated before returning to the environment. Your work directly supports compliance with environmental regulations, protects water resources for future generations, and helps prevent pollution that could impact wildlife, recreation, and public safety. Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Operate and monitor wastewater treatment processes and equipment Utilize SCADA systems and conduct process control testing Operate stationary and mobile equipment safely Perform routine inspections, laboratory sampling, and minor maintenance activities Comply with state and federal regulations Work independently and as part of a team while exercising sound judgment and effective communication Perform physical labor, including reaching, bending, stooping, crawling, standing for extended periods, and lifting 75 pounds on a regular basis, with occasional lifting above that weight Work outdoors in varying weather conditions Respond to emergencies during and outside normal work hours Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Vocational or technical training is a plus Valid driver's license required Ability to obtain an Illinois EPA Class 4 Wastewater Treatment Works Operator Certification within two years of hire Subject to residence requirements How to Apply Submit your resume by September 8, 2026 Equal Opportunity Employer The Bloomington and Normal Water Reclamation District is an Equal Opportunity Employer Protecting Public Health.
