Job Description

Principal Duties:

Performs the routine operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and collection system. Work is performed at the wastewater treatment plant, and plant facilities as well as outside in weather conditions exposed to heat, cold, wet or humid conditions. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Job Requirements:

Must have ability to perform the following: Rotates between the operation and maintenance of the plant facilities and equipment, or the collection system and pump stations. Records daily operational data and makes entries in process logs. Collects and performs basic tests on sewage samples using laboratory testing equipment. Use tools and equipment to repair facilities and process equipment. Climbs stairs while carrying items that weigh up to 50 pounds. Routine cleaning, lubrication, repair, and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Employs the use of sewer cleaning equipment (CDL required), tools, and repair equipment. Operation of vehicles and front-end loader. Responds to public complaints, files work orders. Reports the progress of scheduled tasks to supervisor. Participates in a rotating schedule for 24 hour on-call coverage. Responds to public complaints, sewer backups, and emergency equipment repairs, after hours and weekends. Exercises independent judgment with decisions when needed to perform routine tasks. Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and equipment. Recognizes operating problems with the treatment processes, pumps and other equipment. Operates high pressure cleaning equipment and vacuum systems. Be available for emergency snow response after hours and on weekends. Performs related tasks as assigned by management.

Education & Experience:

Education:

Any combination of education & experience equivalent to a high school diploma.

Experience:

Experience in wastewater treatment preferred

Special Requirements:

Must possess a valid NJ driver's license. A NJ commercial driver's license preferred or the ability to obtain within one year.
