Job Description

Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operator - Class 2

Part-Time (with On-Call Responsibilities) Position Summary The Village of Bloomingburg is seeking a qualified New York State Certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (Class 2A) to oversee the daily operation and regulatory compliance of the Village's wastewater treatment facility. This position is ideal for an experienced operator looking for a flexible schedule while maintaining responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the plant. Responsibilities Perform daily inspections and operational checks of the wastewater treatment plant. Operate, monitor, and optimize all treatment processes and equipment. Ensure compliance with all New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) regulations, permit requirements, and reporting obligations. Collect samples, review laboratory results, and maintain required operational records. Troubleshoot equipment and process issues and coordinate necessary repairs. Prepare and submit required regulatory reports. Coordinate with Village officials regarding plant operations and maintenance needs. Respond to emergency situations, alarms, equipment failures, or permit-related issues as needed. Assist with planning preventative maintenance and operational improvements. Schedule Daily on-site presence is required, generally 2-4 hours per day (may vary depending on operational needs). Must be available 24/7 for emergency call-outs when necessary. Flexible scheduling is available provided all operational and regulatory requirements are met. Village Support The Village will provide a dedicated employee to perform routine maintenance and basic operational tasks. The selected WWTP Operator will be responsible for supervising, training, and directing this employee to ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with plant operating procedures.

Qualifications Required:

Current New York State Class 2A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification . Experience operating wastewater treatment facilities. Knowledge of NYSDEC regulations, SPDES permit compliance, sampling, and reporting requirements. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

Experience training or supervising plant personnel. Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience. Familiarity with pumps, controls, lift stations, and wastewater collection systems.
