What You'll Do A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator performs important work involving the efficient operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant. The work environment is team-based, motivational and fast-paced. Our mission is to provide high-quality, environmentally-sound, efficient, reliable, and affordable water and sewer services to the people who live, work, and visit Livingston County. Examples of Important and Essential Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Starts and stops pumps, motors, air compressors, and related machinery and equipment;
Makes minor repairs to machinery and equipment;
Records readings from meters and gauges;
Treats and disposes of sludge;
Takes samples of sewage for testing;
Makes necessary tests for control of plant operation;
Keeps a log of plant operations and related records;
Performs custodial duties in connection with maintenance of buildings and grounds; and
Performs other related duties as assigned. Who You Are

Working alongside fellow employees to complete assigned tasks sometimes under adverse working conditions to meet goals set forth by management.
Ability to safely and effectively use tools and operate equipment related to wastewater treatment systems maintenance and repair; Ability to perform semi-skilled and other tasks related to wastewater collection treatment systems;
Basic computer skills for record-keeping purposes; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; ability to perform heavy labor under all weather conditions; ability to work in confined spaces; dependability; physical condition commensurate to the demands of the position.
What You Need Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities may qualify. The Authority is looking to appoint a trainee, operator assistant, or operator based on the qualifications and abilities of interested candidates:
Trainee Position:
Graduation from high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid New York driver's license. o Knowledge of plumbing, electric, overall mechanics, basic chemistry and general science; familiarity with elementary principles of chemistry and general science; mechanical aptitude; ability to get along with others; ability to learn principles and procedures relating to the operation of the facility
Operator Assistant Position:
o Possession a Grade 2 or 2A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate at the time of appointment.
Operator Position:
o Possession of a Grade 3, 3A, 4, or 4A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate at the time of appointment o Licensure and certificates must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.

48 and is negotiable based on experience. Comprehensive benefits package including generous paid leave and health benefits. Authority fully covers employees and eligible dependents and a variety of healthcare options. Authority makes annual contributions to employee Healthcare Savings Accounts. The retirement plan is through the New York State Employee Retirement System. Employees are also eligible to establish a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. Vacation Leave of 10-25 days per year based on years of service; Personal Leave of 24 hours per year; and the Authority provides 12 Holidays per year (includes 1 floating holiday). Additional pay and advancement opportunities are available for candidates About Livingston County Water & Sewer Authority The Livingston County Water and Sewer Authority is a public benefit corporation established in 1995 by an act of New York State Legislature. The Authority currently serves over 7,000 water and sewer customers in the Village of Livonia and portions of the Towns of Avon, Caledonia, Conesus, Geneseo, Groveland, Leicester, Lima, Livonia, Mount Morris, Sparta and Springwater. We currently operate and maintain 3 wastewater treatment plants, approximately 60 miles of sanitary sewer collection and conveyance piping, 45 sewage pump stations, 1 water treatment plant, approximately 140 miles of water distribution and transmission piping, 13 water storage tanks, 4 booster pump stations, and 7 re-chlorination stations.
