Job Summary The Water and Sewer Maintenance Worker is an entry-level position responsible for assisting with the operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of the Town's water distribution and wastewater collection systems. The employee performs routine fieldwork, responds to service calls, assists with water and sewer line repairs, maintains facilities and equipment, and supports other municipal operations as assigned. This position requires dependability, a willingness to learn, the ability to perform physical labor in varying weather conditions, and a commitment to public service and workplace safety. The Town will provide training, but the employee is expected to work toward obtaining applicable water and wastewater operator certifications. Role and Responsibilities To preform maintenance of water and wastewater system equipment; repair; lubricate, paint, clean, etc.; set up plant chemical feed dosages according to laboratory jar tests; monitor operations of plant.
Complete reports and tests accurately and in a timely fashion
Provide maintenance for buildings and grounds
Perform necessary chemical procedures and testing
Monitor and maintain meters
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Ensures that ordinances and policies of the Town as well as all applicable state and federal laws are observed and enforced.
Perform utility locates.
Assist with the maintenance and repair of sewer mains, service connections, manholes, lift stations, pumps, and related equipment.
Help identify and clear sewer stoppages and respond to wastewater overflows or service problems.
Inspect, clean, and maintain wastewater collection system components.
Assist with lift station inspections, maintenance, and operational recordkeeping.
Follow required procedures for reporting wastewater incidents and system conditions.
Other duties as assigned Qualifications and Education Requirements
High school graduation or GED equivalent
High ethical standard
Class D Water Operator License and/or Class D Wastewater Operator License. If not currently licensed, must obtain both within one year of hire.
Pre-employment physical & drug screen, and criminal history check
Oklahoma Driver License and a good driving record. Preferred Skills
Heavy equipment knowledge
Ability to follow and transmit oral and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Problem resolution skills
Basic writing, reading, and math skills
Ability to analyze and interrupt data
Ability to organize and maintain records and prepare reports
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, employees and the general public Work Environment and Physical Demands The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee might encounter while performing the essential functions of the job.
Conditions will consist of periodic exposure to extreme weather conditions, frequently working around construction equipment with exposure to dirt, dust, noise, water, and wastewater. Occasional exposure to chemicals and biological materials that could cause personal injury if improperly handled. Contact with members of the public under adverse conditions requiring a diplomatic and professional demeanor. The physical demands can include (list is not inclusive of all possible physical demands):
Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, and hear/listen
Frequently required to possess a full range of body movements, such as turning, stooping, lifting, kneeling, and climbing
Frequently required to reach with hands and arms
Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds Additional Notes
