Job Description
Construction Superintendent - Water & Wastewater Treatment Facilities Many projects are in the Somerset, PA Region
This position will primarily support the Somerset, PA area but will need flexibility to oversee projects throughout Southern Pennsylvania, Western Maryland, and West Virginia.
The Construction Superintendent plans, directs, coordinates, and supervises all field construction activities associated with water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, lift stations, and related utility infrastructure. The Construction Superintendent is responsible for delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents, company standards, and client expectations. This position oversees company personnel, subcontractors, vendors, equipment, and daily operations while maintaining strong communication with project managers, engineers, owners, inspectors, and regulatory agencies. The qualified candidate will have strong field leadership experience, specifically within underground utilities, wastewater, and/or treatment plant construction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise all phases of water and wastewater treatment plant construction.
Direct construction of pump stations, lift stations, valve vaults, process piping, and underground utility systems.
Coordinate installation of process mechanical equipment including pumps, blowers, valves, piping systems, chemical feed equipment, generators, and related infrastructure.
Plan and coordinate daily work activities for company crews and subcontractors.
Schedule labor, equipment, deliveries, and material requirements.
Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and project schedules.
Coordinate work between civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls contractors.
Ensure all work complies with project specifications, quality standards, and contract requirements.
Monitor project productivity and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Identify and resolve field conflicts before they impact project schedule.
Maintain daily reports, production records, safety documentation, and project documentation.
Conduct daily safety meetings and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.
Coordinate inspections, testing, and startup activities.
Participate in equipment startup, commissioning, and project closeout.
Manage project schedules to meet milestones and completion dates.
Mentor foremen and field personnel while promoting professional development.
Maintain positive working relationships with owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Promote company's culture of safety, professionalism, and quality. Qualifications
7-10 years of experience in heavy civil, utility, or water/wastewater construction.
Minimum of 5 years serving as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
Experience constructing water & wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and/or industrial process facilities.
Strong knowledge of mechanical piping systems, underground water and sewer utilities, concrete structures, pump stations, lift stations, process equipment installation, and rigging/equipment setting.
Ability to read civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and process drawings.
Excellent leadership, planning, and organizational skills.
Strong communication and conflict-resolution abilities.
OSHA 30 Certification, CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and walk uneven terrain and active construction sites.
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
Able to work extended hours, weekends, or nights as project schedules require.
Valid Driver's License with acceptable MVR.
