Job Description

Overall Objective of Job:
To cost effectively perform advanced water treatment procedures in order to meet or exceed Department of Environmental Protection water standards.
Essential Functions of Job:
Operate a wide range of wastewater treatment plant equipment within the following areas: headworks, primary clarification, aeration basins, secondary clarifiers, tertiary filters, disinfection, biosolids digestion, dewatering / drying, waste receiving and depackaging. Equipment within each area is subject to change with plant design or modificationsPerform wastewater procedures such as skimming grease from wastewater tanks and adding chemical cleaning solutions.Routinely monitor the oxygen levels and pressure readings of water tanks.Perform laboratory tests including but not limited to: BODS, pH tests, water transparency, and fecal coliform.Clean and maintain all treatment plant equipment and facilities, including snow shoveling and minor landscaping.Conduct occasional plant tours for the general public when necessary.Evaluate plant data and make decisive operational changes using that data.Other duties as assigned.

Plant Superintendent, Assistant Plant Superintendent Supervision Given:
None Working Conditions:
An indoor laboratory/factory environment with controlled temperature, and with occasional strong odors and exposure to chemicals. An outdoors environment with fluctuations between hot and cold, and exposure to the elements. Consistent loud noise.
Essential Physical Demands:
Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time. Stretching, bending, or reaching required. Lift a maximum of fifty (50) pounds. Frequent climbing of ladders may be required.
Qualifications:
A.
Education/Training:
High school diploma or the equivalent required. Class AE Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators license with type 1 subclass. In accordance with PA Operator/Certification Act, this position must obtain the appropriate license to operate the UAJA Plant within 4 years from the date of hire. B.
Work Experience:
Experience with plant operations in an activated sludge treatment capacity. Experience with the collection and pumping of raw wastewater, as well as familiarity with cleaning processes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Basic knowledge of arithmetic. Basic knowledge of computers. Good verbal and written skills. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Self-motivated.
Pay:
From $62,415.00 per year
