Work involves responsibility for the technical aspects of plant operations, water and wastewater collection systems, and compliance with state and federal operating regulations. Work is performed with considerable independence under the direction of the Chief Water/Wastewater Operator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Perform all aspects of utility operations, sampling, monitoring, and testing required to maintain compliance with Federal State, and Local regulations governing the water and wastewater systems. Assist with the installation and inspection of new water and wastewater utilities. Assist the maintenance department in the performance of regular and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on all plant and distribution and collection equipment and machinery. Perform on-call responsibilities to respond to emergencies and breakdowns at the plant and lift stations as scheduled. Conduct necessary weekend checks on a rotating basis. Maintain open communications with the supervisors regarding the treatment process and lift stations operation and malfunctions, as well as make recommendations for repairs and improvements to the systems. Repairs and maintains chlorine tanks and lines. Receives and responds to customer complaints and takes or recommends appropriate action; and Assists with annual inspections of water/wastewater treatment facilities. Other Important Duties Flushes fire hydrants. Assist water/gas crews with leak repairs, as needed. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
methods, practices, and equipment used in water/wastewater treatment facilities, including the safe handling of chlorine gas; and the safe operation of heavy equipment and of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to the operation of such motorized equipment.
Skill /Ability to:
diagnose, repair, and maintain water/wastewater treatment facilities, applying safety standards to prevent hazards; learn and comply with state and federal regulations applicable to water/wastewater treatment facilities; prepare concise and accurate reports; perform simple mathematical calculations; understand and follow instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers; tolerate outside working conditions including exposure to adverse weather conditions; and maintain appropriate necessary certifications, Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, and good driving record.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma. Water/Wastewater Licenses/Certifications. Maintain a Texas Driver's License and clean driving record.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES & LICENSES
Currently hold or have the ability to obtain Class C Water Production and Wastewater Treatment Licenses in a timely matter.
