Job Description

Job Overview Join our dynamic team as a Wastewater Operator and become a vital part of ensuring environmental safety and compliance at our wastewater treatment facility. In this energetic role, you will operate, monitor, and maintain wastewater systems and water treatment equipment to ensure efficient processing and adherence to environmental regulations. Your expertise will help protect public health and preserve natural resources while supporting the seamless operation of our water utility services. This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about environmental stewardship, mechanical systems, and industrial operations. Duties Operate and control wastewater treatment plant equipment, including pumps, valves, and chemical feed systems, to maintain optimal treatment processes. Monitor plant performance through data collection, analysis, and adjusting controls on distributed control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Conduct routine inspections of wastewater systems, water treatment equipment, and heavy machinery to identify maintenance needs or operational issues. Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on industrial pumps, water systems, and related mechanical components to ensure continuous operation. Collect samples and perform tests to verify environmental compliance and proper water quality standards are met. Maintain detailed logs of plant operations, maintenance activities, safety checks, and incident reports in accordance with safety regulations. Mow and maintain village property Coordinate weekend shifts with waterworks operator. Regular attendance to village board meetings. Plow and maintain village streets. Operate heavy equipment safely during construction or repair projects while adhering to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. Requirements Proven experience working in wastewater treatment plants or water utility environments with knowledge of wastewater systems and water treatment processes (is preferred but not required). Ability to pass Department of Natural Resource wastewater exams within a year of employment. The ability to be on-call for unexpected circumstances. Experience in Microsoft 365 Office Suite. Ability to operate heavy machinery safely including construction equipment and pumps requiring heavy lifting skills. Basic math skills for data analysis, measurements, calculations related to flow rates, chemical dosing, and system performance. Knowledge of safety regulations related to industrial operations and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Experience working in the energy & utilities sector (is preferred but not required); a strong understanding of environmental compliance is essential. Ability to perform physical tasks including heavy lifting, standing for long periods, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces when necessary. Excellent analysis skills for interpreting operational data and making informed decisions for system optimization.
