Position Overview:

GTR Manufacturing is seeking an experienced and versatile Precision TIG Welder to join our prototype precision sheet metal team. This role involves the fabrication, welding, and finishing of custom and low-volume prototype components requiring high precision and craftsmanship. The successful candidate must demonstrate flexibility to assist in other areas of production when welding work is limited, ensuring the continuous flow of operations across the shop.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform TIG welding on aluminum, stainless steel, and mild steel materials. Layout, fit, and weld components with precision, ensuring adherence to dimensional and cosmetic requirements. Conduct grinding, deburring, and surface finishing of welds to meet aesthetic and functional standards. Fabricate sheet metal components and assemblies based on engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications. Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment in compliance with company safety policies. Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance needs promptly. Able to read calipers and maintain tolerances for precision light gauge sheet metal. Assist in general fabrication activities such as forming, assembly, hardware installation, or machine operation as needed.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in welding or fabrication preferred. Minimum 3-5+ years of experience in welding and fabrication within a precision sheet metal environment.

Technical Skills:

Proficient in TIG welding of thin-gauge materials (0.030"-0.125"). Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and welding symbols. Skilled in fabrication techniques including layout, cutting, forming, and fitting. Competent with hand tools, grinders, and general fabrication equipment. Capable of maintaining tight tolerances and producing high-quality finishes.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, carry, and handle materials up to 50 lbs. Standing, bending, and performing physical work for extended periods. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, and welding helmet.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a prototype or job shop environment. Familiarity with cosmetic weld inspection standards. Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and 5S practices.
