Job Description

Position Summary Carteret Marine Services is seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator to support our marine construction operations. This position is responsible for welding, cutting, fitting, and fabricating structural components used in marine construction, vessel and equipment repairs, and custom shop projects. The ideal candidate will have experience with multiple welding processes, be able to interpret drawings and measurements, and consistently produce safe, accurate, and high-quality work. Work may be performed in our shop, yard, or at marine construction jobsites. Key ResponsibilitiesWelding & Fabrication Perform MIG, TIG, and Stick welding based on project requirements. Cut, fit, assemble, and weld steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and other materials. Fabricate structural components, equipment parts, brackets, supports, and custom assemblies. Perform welding and fabrication repairs on vessels, trailers, heavy equipment, vehicles, and marine construction equipment. Use torches, plasma cutters, grinders, saws, and other fabrication tools safely and effectively. Inspect completed welds and correct defects as needed. Ensure finished work meets project specifications and Carteret Marine quality standards. Drawings & Layout Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, measurements, and welding symbols. Accurately measure, mark, cut, and fit materials before welding. Verify dimensions and alignment throughout the fabrication process. Communicate with supervisors regarding discrepancies, material needs, or project concerns. Equipment & Shop Responsibilities Inspect and properly maintain welding machines, leads, torches, grinders, and related tools. Assist with organizing welding materials, consumables, tools, and supplies. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area. Assist with general shop, equipment, and yard duties when needed. Safety & Quality Follow all Carteret Marine safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements. Properly use required personal protective equipment. Follow hot-work, fire-prevention, ventilation, and confined-space procedures when applicable. Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, and potential hazards. Consistently produce clean, strong, and dependable welds. Work safely around vessels, heavy equipment, machinery, and active marine construction operations. Qualifications Required Previous professional welding and fabrication experience. Proficiency in MIG and Stick welding. Ability to cut, fit, and fabricate materials accurately. Ability to read measurements, fabrication drawings, and blueprints. Knowledge of welding safety practices and proper equipment operation. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Dependable attendance and reliable transportation. Ability to pass a welding test before employment. Preferred TIG and aluminum welding experience. AWS welding certification or similar credentials. Experience with structural or marine welding. Experience repairing vessels, trailers, heavy equipment, or construction equipment. Experience working in marine construction or industrial environments. Forklift or equipment-operation certification. Working Conditions Work is performed in shop, yard, and marine construction jobsite environments. Regular exposure to welding operations, sparks, heat, noise, machinery, vessels, weather, and moving equipment. Outdoor work may be required in varying weather conditions. Requires the use of PPE and strict adherence to all Carteret Marine safety requirements. Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more, stand for extended periods, bend, climb, and work in physically demanding conditions. Some travel to project locations may be required.
