Starting at 8:00 PM Shift differential included Position Overview The Fabricator is responsible for structural layout, welding, and fabrication of large steel weldments using engineering drawings. This role requires strong welding, rigging, and layout skills within a structural steel fabrication shop environment. Responsibilities & Skills Fabrication & Welding Minimum 5+ years experience performing structural layout and positioning of steel components on large weldments using engineering drawings (DWGs) Minimum 5+ years welding experience Proficient in MIG, Stick, and TIG welding Ability to easily pass internal weld testing Capable of performing multi-pass welds and welding various wire thicknesses including specialized wires (ex: hard facing) Recognize good and bad welds per Mellott standards and repair subpar welds prior to QA inspection Layout & Measurement Competent performing layout using DWGs, sketches, or verbal instruction Proficient with layout tools including squares, tape measures, lasers, string lines, torpedo levels, 2, 4, 6, and 8 levels, combination squares, and angle finders Able to read measuring tools to 1/16 or 1 mm as drawings require Strong math skills used daily to ensure weldments are square, level, and correctly positioned Understanding of maintaining fabrication tolerances as specified on drawings Rigging & Equipment Operation Minimum 5+ years rigging or millwright experience Ability to safely handle and flip large weldments using jib and bridge cranes Familiar with operating forklifts, telehandlers, manlifts, overhead cranes, metal saws, press brakes, iron workers, and similar equipment Trained in basic rigging principles and techniques Work Environment & Expectations Comfortable working in a structural steel fabrication shop with multiple welding stations Coordinate fitment of components on weldments produced by other departments Good communication skills in a loud shop environment Willing to take instruction from leads and supervision Team player with safety as priority one Participate in safety toolbox meetings Assist managers, foremen, or superintendents as directed Capable of completing work within estimated fabrication timeframes and monitoring hours applied to projects Willingness to work out-of-town for up to two weeks at a time, as required Willingness to work off campus at a customers facility, as required Comfortable working off hours or overtime as needed to complete projects Education & Certifications High school diploma or GED AWS D1.1 welding certification, or ability to obtain certification Willingness to further education through apprenticeship or job skills training offered by the company Basic first aid training Additional Information This job description is not designed to cover a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required for the role.
