Job Description

Welder in Memphis, TN! Job Description This role focuses on GMAW welding using .045 wire on mild steel components in a busy sheet metal fabrication environment. You will set and adjust welding machine parameters based on material type and thickness, perform high-quality welds, and ensure finished parts meet detailed specifications and tolerances. The position involves light MIG welding for fabrication work, reading and interpreting blueprints, and collaborating with other team members to complete custom builds while maintaining daily production goals. Responsibilities Set and adjust GMAW welding machine parameters according to material type and thickness to ensure proper weld quality. Perform MIG welds on mild steel materials ranging from 12 gauge up to 3/4 inch thick, including channel, angle, tube steel, and plate. Execute proper welds per application and identify, correct, and prevent defective welds such as incomplete fusion, porosity, or inconsistent beads. Use grinders to clean and finish welds upon completion of welding tasks, ensuring parts are ready for subsequent operations or assembly. Read and interpret detailed drawings, schematics, and blueprints to understand project requirements and fabrication details. Use tape measures and other measuring tools with high accuracy to verify dimensions and layout components according to specifications. Fit and align materials based on project specifications, ensuring correct orientation, spacing, and tolerances before welding. Perform light MIG welding to secure and assemble components as part of fabrication and production work. Collaborate closely with fabricators and other welders to complete custom builds and production orders efficiently. Inspect and verify dimensions, tolerances, and overall quality of assembled and welded components to meet project standards. Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality to support consistent first-shift production operations. Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment while working in a loud, dirty fabrication environment. Essential Skills Prior experience as a welder in an industrial or construction environment. Proficiency with GMAW welding using .045 wire. Ability to set and adjust welding machine parameters based on material type and thickness. Experience with MIG welding for light fabrication and production work. Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, schematics, and technical documentation. Strong skills in using tape measures and other measuring tools with high accuracy. Ability to fit and align materials according to project specifications and tolerances. Comfort using grinders for weld cleanup and finishing. Strong attention to detail and precision in fabrication and welding tasks. Reliable transportation and consistent punctuality. Comfort working in a loud, dirty sheet metal fabrication facility. Commitment to following safety procedures and wearing required PPE. Additional Skills & Qualifications Forklift experience is preferred but not required. Basic knowledge of metalworking and fabrication techniques is a plus. Experience working in production, fabrication, or machine shop environments. Certifications in welding or blueprint reading are considered an advantage. Familiarity with welding equipment such as Millermatic 350P and similar industrial welders. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a sheet metal fabricating facility that is loud and very dirty, typical of heavy industrial and steel fabrication work. You will work on mild steel materials from 12 gauge up to 3/4 inch thick, using industrial welding equipment such as Millermatic 350P and comparable machines, along with grinders and standard fabrication tools. The position is on first shift, working from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Personal protective equipment is required at all times, including steel toe shoes, work pants with no rips or tears, ear plugs, and safety glasses. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Memphis, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
