DESCRIPTION A

Fitter 2nd Class is responsible for positioning and securing various types and sizes of steel parts and components to be welded onto subassemblies or assemblies, according to drawings, specifications and instructions.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Promote and adhere to the Core Values and Behavior Code.

Capable of analyzing engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly and welding operations.

Ability to layout, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, ruler, jigs welding torches and other hand tools.

Develop templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.

Experience reading, understanding and adhering to established weld and production procedures.

Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.

Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to workpieces, locating bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine stock, welding shrinkage and other component specifications.

Demonstrate proficiency and attain qualifications in welding processes;

SMAW & GMAW.

Operate grinding equipment.

Ability to operate material handling equipment.

Follow proper material control procedures and record keeping.

Perform basic and preventative maintenance on equipment.

Responsible for achieving good speed of execution while maintaining quality workmanship in a wide range of fitting activities.

Maintain work area, equipment and supplies in a neat and orderly condition.

Promote company goals with a focus on Safety, Quality, and Production.

Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent, technical training or apprentice certification desired.

Minimum of 3+ years related production experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Proficient in reading and interpreting blue prints, drawings and specifications.

Experience with electrical and manual tools.

Demonstrated ability to understand and follow through on verbal and written instructions.

Knowledge of safety standards

Self-motivated and able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

Adaptability and flexibility to shift priorities based on the organizations' needs.

Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Dependability, integrity and professionalism are essential.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

This full-time position operates in a production environment. Physical effort consists of frequent handling of light to average weight tools or materials, some handling of heavy weights, some pulling, pushing. The employee must be able to lift and move items up to 50 pounds. Work performed requires constant alertness and activity, good eye/hand coordination and concentrated mental and visual attention.
