The Community Relations Specialist focuses on developing, managing, and expanding professional relationships throughout the healthcare community to secure a steady pipeline of clinical trial referrals. Operating primarily within our Psychiatry and Infectious Disease sectors, this role acts as the professional face of Segal Trials. To achieve enrollment goals, they will deploy a multi-faceted outreach strategy targeting healthcare facilities, community organizations, and institutional gatekeepers. A core requirement of this role is the ability to confidently position and discuss clinical research as a valid, high-quality care option for patients—especially those who are treatment-resistant, underinsured, or in need of cutting-edge therapeutic interventions. The ideal candidate brings an established, active network of local healthcare provider relationships to hit the ground running. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Referral Volume & Pipeline Growth:
Meet or exceed monthly/quarterly targets for incoming clinical trial referrals from professional sources.
Warm Lead Conversion:
Successfully convert a designated percentage of passive "medical record sending" clinics into active, intentional referral partners each quarter.
Outreach Activity Metrics:
Maintain a consistent volume of high-value weekly field touchpoints (e.g., in-person physician visits, hospital discharge coordinator meetings, presentations to crisis units).
Channel Diversification:
Documented expansion of the referral network across all core target sectors (Private Psych, STI Clinics, Discharge Planners, and CIT Units).
Database Accuracy:
Maintain 100% up-to-date and precise tracking of all provider accounts, contacts, and referral metrics in our CRM system.
Conduct consistent field outreach and visits to private psychiatric practices, community health centers (FQHCs), and regional STI clinics to educate providers on active trial protocols and secure referral agreements. Research as a
Care Option Advocacy:
Confidently engage with physicians, clinicians, and community leaders to reframe clinical trials as an accessible, cost-free care option and resource for their patients.
Institutional Transition Networking:
Establish and formalize referral pathways with hospital discharge planners, inpatient psychiatric units, and crisis stabilization centers to transition appropriate patients into clinical trials upon discharge.
Medical Record Data Mining:
Routinely analyze the origins of inbound medical records to identify high-volume sending facilities and clinicians, actively targeting them to convert passive data-senders into intentional referral partners.
Community & First Responder Liaison:
Build strategic ties with mental health advocacy groups, infectious disease support networks, and local law enforcement mental health liaison/crisis intervention teams (CIT) who engage with decompensating patients.
Event Representation & Tracking:
Represent Segal Trials at medical conferences and provider networking events, while maintaining a CRM database to track referral sources and optimize outreach strategies.
Must possess an established, pre-existing professional network of healthcare providers, clinics, discharge planners, or community health leaders in the local region.
Experience:
3+ years in healthcare provider outreach, pharmaceutical sales (specifically CNS/Psychiatry or Specialty Infectious Disease), medical device marketing, or clinical case management.
Clinical Confidence:
Strong ability to articulately and confidently discuss clinical research as a care option with medical professionals, addressing misconceptions about clinical trials.
Industry Knowledge:
Deep comfort level discussing psychiatric conditions (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, treatment-resistant depression) and infectious diseases (e.g., HIV, PrEP, STI protocols).
Versatile Skillset:
Balanced blend of high-energy community networking and sharp analytical skills to identify referral trends from existing medical record data.
Compliance & Traits:
Complete understanding of HIPAA compliance regarding medical records, paired with excellent professional presentation skills and the tenacity to navigate medical office gatekeepers.
