Job Description
Under limited supervision, this employee will be responsible for supervising the daily operations of the Communications Center.
Job Duties Include:
Supervising and managing the overall operations of an assigned shift within SCDNR's Communications Center. Overseeing telephone, computer, and radio communications to ensure accurate, timely, and policy-compliant information dissemination. Reviewing Communications Center logs for accuracy and compliance with established policies and procedures. Addressing disciplinary issues and complaints for shift personnel promptly and appropriately. Maintaining and updating shift schedules to reflect call-outs, furloughs, and approved time requests. Communicating all schedule changes to the Communications Coordinator to ensure full staffing coverage for assigned shifts. Planning furlough schedules in advance and reviewing and approving all time entries in SCEIS. Working with the Communications Coordinator to assist in conducting training for new hires and coordinating the assignment of Communication Training Officers (CTOs), delivering accurate information and maintaining proper documentation throughout the training period. Reviewing and verifying completion of training once a new hire is cleared to work independently. Assisting the Communications Coordinator with assigned tasks to support overall Communications Center operations. Collaborating with Communications Coordinator to conduct monthly quality assurance reviews for employees on the supervised shift. Providing support to the Communications Coordinator in meeting NCIC requirements and compliance standards. Providing guidance and support by being available for shift employees during scheduled working hours. Demonstrating flexibility in work hours to cover staffing shortages as needed. Serving as a Telecommunications Operator during staff shortages or whenever necessary to maintain Communications Center operations. A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience as a communications specialist. NCIC certification in accordance with NCIC policy.
Managerial/supervisory experience preferred. Familiarity with
CJIS/NCIC
standards and policies. Excellent communication skills and clear speech preferred. Ability to use good personal judgment and discretion using a predetermined set of guidelines established by the Communications Coordinator. Experience using windows computer software applications. Ability to operate with limited supervision. Basic Telecommunications Officer Training or equivalent National Incident Management System 100, 200, 700, 800, 240. This position operates in a 24 hours a day, 365 days a year work environment. Employee will have a flexible work schedule and should be available to work rotating shifts.
