We are a non-profit organization that believes access to nutritious food is a basic human right. We serve roughly 500 families each month through food distribution, nutrition education, and community advocacy. We're seeking a creative, community-minded Marketing & Communications Specialist to help tell our story, engage our donor base, and ensure our neighbors know how and where to access support. Position Overview The Marketing & Communications Specialist will elevate the organization's public presence, lead digital storytelling, and drive audience engagement. You will craft compelling content that highlights our impact, supports fundraising efforts, and fosters community connection across social media, email, print, and local press. Key Responsibilities 1. Storytelling & Content Creation (40%) Interview clients, volunteers, and donors to write respectful, dignified stories that highlight the pantry's impact. Manage and execute the content calendar for all social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.). Design clear, engaging visual assets for digital and print (flyers, social graphics, event signage, impact reports) using tools like Canva. 2. Digital Marketing & Communications (30%) Write and distribute a monthly digital newsletter for donors, volunteers, and community partners. Maintain and update the organization's website (e.g., updating distribution hours, event calendars, and news posts). Monitor social media channels, respond to community inquiries, and foster online engagement. 3. Fundraising & Event Support (20%) Collaborate with the fundraising team to design promotional materials for seasonal campaigns (e.g., GivingTuesday, holiday food drives). Create promotional copy and assets for community events, volunteer recruitment, and food drive partnerships. 4. Community Outreach & PR (10%) Draft press releases for major announcements, milestones, or events for local media outlets. Ensure all communications maintain a dignified, empathetic, and culturally sensitive tone regarding food insecurity.
Qualifications & Skills Experience:
1-3 years of experience in marketing, communications, social media management, or content creation (nonprofit experience is a major plus).
Design & Tools:
Hands-on experience with Canva (or Adobe Creative Cloud), email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact), and website CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Squarespace).
Writing:
Strong storytelling skills with an eye for detail, grammar, and tone. Ability to write for diverse audiences (donors vs. clients receiving services).
Empathy & Ethics:
Deep commitment to dignity-first storytelling, client confidentiality, and equity in food access.
Self-Starter:
Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and balance multiple short-term tasks. Work Environment & Benefits Flexible schedule with some availability within core operating hours.
