Job Description

SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the development and management of all ongoing communication within the city. In collaboration with city staff, this position will oversee the communication of city programming, utilizing various communication strategies, including print and online media.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Develops and implements media, communications, and public relations strategies. Writes and edits content; ensures it is clear, compelling, and properly distributed across web, mobile and social platforms; and adheres to a consistent brand philosophy. Works with supervisor to support the development of plans for new and innovative content for other departments, individuals, or groups. Performs updates and maintenance to the city website and social platforms. Proofreads and edits content, updates information as needed prior to public release. Uses qualitative and quantitative data and research to shape narratives and create content experiences tailored to the target audience. Regularly monitors data, such as web traffic, social media engagement, citizen surveys, focus groups, and video views to identify strategies for content creation. Identifies content requirements and suggests content strategies and deliverables as a part of robust communications plans, departmental goals, and/or smaller day-to-day projects. Identify opportunities to inform and educate citizens about City services and programs through engaging content for various platforms. Uses data and/or analysis to decide how to expand the city's targeted/strategic communications; continuously looks to and monitors industry best practices and innovations to improve overall delivery of content. Recommends to supervisor any appropriate tools and strategies for improved communication efforts; finds new and innovative ways to utilize the City's content throughout a variety of mediums to enhance community relations and engagement. Utilizes both digital and traditional media for an integrated communications approach and holistic reporting. Supports adherence to schedule and the production of content for regular and special media and other printed or digital materials through scheduling, editing, writing, approval, design, and distribution. Assists the creation, editing and maintenance efforts for all written content intended for public audiences throughout the City, partners with content creators and acts as a resource and advisor for the development of content. Continuously monitor and review new and existing content for applicability, quality, and appropriateness. Work with supervisor to gain correct errors or inconsistencies or to create awareness of emerging content creation philosophies and trends, as appropriate. Assist with emergency communications, City-sponsored events, and other communication activities and duties, as assigned. Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to remain organized and prioritize work. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with management, City officials, vendors, stakeholders, and the community.
Proficient in applications such as:
Canva, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office. Photography/Video experience a plus. Flexibility of work schedule for special events
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor s degree from an accredited college or university in business, management, public relations, communications, computer technology, marketing, journalism or closely related field or commensurate college coursework and experience. Valid driver s license.
