Full Job Description E-Commerce Product Development Specialist Location:
3-4 days in-office in
Fulton, MD Compensation:
$75,000/year Base + Performance-Based Bonus (Typical bonus range: $15,000-$50,000/year, based on product launch performance) Company Overview At Fulton Imports, we specialize in building and scaling private label e-commerce brands. We operate a high-volume, dynamic supply chain, launching approximately 300 new physical SKUs annually. We don't just launch products — we find gaps in the market and figure out how to win, from identifying distinct market opportunities to optimizing product differentiation and executing profitable launches from concept to final market entry. Job Summary We are seeking a commercially minded E-Commerce Product Development Specialist to take strategic ownership of our new physical product rollouts. In this role, you'll be given a target consumer need (e.g., a children's climbing set) and tasked with figuring out how we successfully enter and compete in that category — analyzing the competition, proposing creative differentiators (like material changes or feature upgrades), and validating the financial case for your ideas. You will manage the product lifecycle through financial vetting, sample inspection, and cross-functional coordination, and you'll be rewarded directly for launches that perform. This position is built for a results-driven professional who thrives on market competition and enjoys owning a product from idea to production handoff.
Note:
This is not a digital marketing or software development role. You'll be working with physical, tangible products from concept through manufacturing. Key Responsibilities Creative Differentiation & Market Research (25%): Analyze targeted market segments to identify gaps in current competitor offerings. Propose strategic product improvements and differentiators to capture market share and fulfill consumer needs. Documentation & Handoff (30%): Produce meticulous, comprehensive handoff documentation detailing final specifications, design requirements, and production notes to ensure a seamless transition to our factory and production teams. Financial Vetting & Strategy (15%): Evaluate factory quotes, calculate projected margins, and conduct financial analyses to ensure product profitability. Present data-driven recommendations during internal approval meetings. Project Initiation (15%): Develop precise project briefs within Basecamp, outlining core product specifications, design modifications, and value propositions to initiate the quoting process with our sourcing team. Sample Inspection & Quality Assurance (15%): Conduct hands-on reviews of physical product samples, assessing structural integrity, functionality, and aesthetics — identifying and communicating necessary improvements prior to mass production.
Experience & Requirements Experience:
3+ years of professional experience in e-commerce, physical product development, or equivalent experience successfully managing an independent online storefront (e.g., Amazon, Etsy, Shopify, eBay). (Please note: this is a mid-level role; recent graduates will not be considered.)
Commercial Mindset:
A strong competitive drive and proven ability to think strategically about product positioning. Highly motivated by performance-based incentives tied directly to product success.
Strategic Creativity:
Ability to evaluate existing product categories, identify consumer pain points, and propose actionable, cost-effective improvements.
Analytical Proficiency:
Strong financial acumen with the ability to conduct margin calculations, analyze pricing structures, and manage data within Excel.
Project Management:
Exceptional organizational and written communication skills. Experience using project management software (Basecamp, Asana, Jira, etc.) to maintain clear documentation and keep cross-functional teams aligned.
Bonus Skills:
Familiarity with Amazon market research tools (Helium 10, Jungle Scout) or prior experience working with overseas factories and sourcing teams is a major plus.
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
Benefits:
