Farmers Market Manager, Part-Time Job Description Position Overview The Farmers Market Manager is responsible for coordinating up to two vibrant marketplaces and community gathering places, one weekday and one weekend, to be determined. Responsibilities include working closely with a broad network of stakeholders, including farmers, market vendors, and community partner organizations; redeeming nutrition benefits; developing market programming; developing informational social media content; and building positive relationships across constituent groups to advance CitySeed's mission. This is a part-time, 20 hour per week position, and reports to the Director of Agriculture. Responsibilities Program Management and Implementation
- Oversee the day-to-day functioning of on-site Farmers Market programming, including: market set-up/tear-down processes, market layouts and stall assignments, equipment transportation and maintenance, management of market hours of operation, and other market logistics
- Ensure compliance of city, state, and CitySeed regulations, policies, and guidelines
- Supervise and train on-site interns and Youth at Work participants
- Build the capacity of the Farmers Market's systems and processes by maintaining and coordinating various platforms (ex: Farmspread, FMTracks, Google Drive, etc.) to ensure the efficiency, sustainability, and growth of the program over time
- Manage and maintain all market nutrition program systems and processes including communicating with partners (ex: Department of Elderly Services, End Hunter CT), setting up contracts and agreements (GoEBT, USDA FNS), and tracking and reporting data
- Ensure CitySeed is up to date on all
USDA FNS
numbers and GoEBT contracts to ensure our ability to accept SNAP is maintained year-round for all necessary market locations
- Collaborate with partners and City of New Haven departments to secure permits and permissions
- Monitor for potential improvements in daily logistics, outreach efforts, and product selection
- Oversee the care of all Farmers Market equipment and physical infrastructure (ex: vans, payment terminals, tents, etc.)
- Maintain an inventory of materials, and communicate when updates or replacements are needed
- Support evaluation of all Farmers Market plans, programs, activities and procedures with regard to their purpose, inclusivity, sustainability and impact on the organization and community. Vendor Engagement and Communication
- Evaluate current application, communication, and onboarding systems to ensure a positive experience for new vendors entering CitySeed Farmer Markets
- Manage each market's online application process
- Manage the annual vendor recruitment process to ensure that each market has an appropriate number and variety of vendors
- Manage, review and update the Farmers Market Handbook and vendor policies as necessary, to ensure they are accurate, fair, and relevant to market operations annually
- Enforce CitySeed vendor policies by engaging in proactive conflict management, and elevating issues with vendors to CitySeed leadership when necessary
- Coordinate and communicate with the Farmers Market Advisory Committee; support planning and hosting annual meeting Data, Reporting and Financials
- Compile weekly internal report on each market, including data on gross vendor sales, market income, and feedback from customers and vendors
- Collect and input vendor transaction data and nutrition incentive program data for creation of reports in a regular, accurate, and timely fashion
- After each market, confirm vendor sales data in Farmspread, ensuring all vendors have submitted their totals, and send weekly Market Reports to CitySeed staff
- Update Market Data workbook weekly for accounting and reporting purposes
- Follow up with vendors regularly to ensure market data is up-to-date
- Manage the Farmers Markets billing and accounting processes
- Ensure vendors are reimbursed in a timely manner and that CitySeed is paid any outstanding fees Customer and Community Relations
- Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate Farmers Market volunteers
- Identify new opportunities for improving customers' experience at the Farmers Markets
- Provide excellent customer service to market attendees and customers, ensuring they have a positive and inclusive experience
- Plan and implement community tables, performers, events and other special community engagement opportunities at the markets
- Propose content for newsletter, website, social media, and other campaigns to promote the markets
- Establish and maintain intentional and collaborative relationships with other organizations and partners to enhance the markets and promote the work of our partners
- Support policy and advocacy related to sustainable agriculture, agricultural viability, food access, and Farmers Markets Required Qualifications
- Proven communication, conflict resolution and creative problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, under time constraints, and prioritize tasks
- Computer skills (such as Word, Excel, Square, Google Sheets and Calendars)
- Valid CT driver's license and ability to drive a van
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50lbs and work in inclement weather conditions Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with New Haven's food system and food businesses
- Knowledge of seasonal produce and experience working with farmers
- Demonstrated ability to supervise volunteers, interns, and youth
- Customer service experience
- Understanding of Spanish and/or Arabic Details
- Hybrid with some evenings and weekends
- Part-time, 20 hours weekly, hourly rate $20-25 depending on experience
