POSITION SUMMARY

The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for the District's website and mobile application (app), including user experience (UX), user interface (UI), design, layout, content development, web writing and accessibility, as well as management and strategic development. This position also supports social media and graphic design needs and provides guidance, training, and support for the school-based webmasters and collaborates with colleagues in the Communications department. This position reports to the Digital Content Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITITES

Supports the district's online presence with priority focus on the district (www.clayton.k12.ga.us) website, developing and implementing digital strategies that maximize the visibility and reputation of the district, strengthen the Clayton County Public Schools brand, advance the strategic priorities of the district, and support student, parent, employee, and community engagement. Apply UX/UI principles and web-writing best practices to ensure content is user-friendly, easy to navigate and appropriate for digital audiences.

Supports the development, publishing, and management of District social media content and create or adapt routine digital graphics and visual assets for social media, websites, and other digital communications. Assess and implement regular updates to ensure digital content aligns with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and other applicable digital accessibility standards.

Develops comprehensive, measurable goals and strategies, including needs assessment, planning, design, implementation, stakeholder engagement, and life-cycle management. Regularly assess website, social media, mobile app, and other available digital data to benchmark success and identify opportunities for improvement using appropriate analytics and reporting tools.

Surveys and assesses excellent websites, particularly those in K-12 education, as well as emerging digital, UX/UI, social media, and web content trends and best practices for use in website planning, development, and continuous improvement of the District's digital presence.

Selects, edits, resizes, optimizes, and manages images and design graphics used across the website, mobile app, social media, and other digital platforms. Facilitates regular image and visual-content updates to keep platforms current and engaging, and collect digital assets related to District initiatives

Facilitates ongoing qualitative and quantitative improvement across the district website and the district mobile app. Collaborates with schools to plan and create website and digital content that optimizes messaging, usability, accessibility, and brand consistency. Conducts regular website reviews with schools and provide guidance based on website analytics, user experience, and desired communication outcomes.

Manages and supports the District's mobile app platform, applying digital communication and user-experience best practices to increase engagement among key audiences and ensure content remains timely, accessible, and useful.

Collaborates with District departments to ensure an engaging user experience and consistent branding, messaging, and content across the District website and other digital platforms. Write, edit, and adapt web content as needed to ensure information is clear, concise, accurate, accessible, and appropriate for online audiences.

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Associate's degree from an accredited educational institution in a related field required; Bachelor's degree from accredited educational institution in Web Design, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience required. Experience in web content management platforms, website layout and design, UX/UI, web content development and writing, digital communications, social media, graphic design, color schemes, and related digital content functions preferred. Working knowledge of HTML and CSS preferred.
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member. Follow federal and state laws as well as School Board policies, rules and regulations. Demonstrate support for the school district and its goals and priorities. Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement. Prepare or assist in the preparation of required reports and maintain all appropriate records. Participate in cross-training activities as required. Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
  • Related technical or professional certification preferred.
  • Self-starter with high level of judgment, independent decision-making and goal-oriented approach to daily work required.

Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel, including individuals with influence and decision-making responsibility. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required for working with District leaders, administrators, schools, departments, and Communications team members.

Requires frequent contact with external personnel and stakeholders. Excellent interpersonal, customer service, communication, and networking skills are required when working with external partners and members of the community.

Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize, assignments, and maintain attention to detail.

Knowledge of digital content and website content management platforms; UX/UI principles; web writing and content development; digital accessibility and WCAG standards; social media platforms and publishing practices; website and social media analytics; graphic design; illustration; digital photography; and multimedia. Proficiency with graphic design and image-editing tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, or comparable applications. Working knowledge of HTML and CSS preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets and Google Workspace collaboration tools.

Welfare of Others:

Constant (Daily) - to exercise the duty of care and protection of the health, safety, security, welfare, well-being, and best interests of the district's various stakeholders.

Normal office setting. Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; lift and move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment, including computer, telephone, calculator, copiers, and fax. May require travel to conferences, workshops and meetings. School site visits required.

Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying 20 lbs. or less.

NOTE:

This is a Grade 25, 225-day position with a salary range of $54,822 - $84,573. Final salary placement within this range is determined based on individual credentials, years of relevant experience, and the guidelines outlined in the CCPS Compensation Handbook found here.
