Position :

You'll be at the forefront of local economic growth efforts that aim to create economic opportunity for all. The Manager or Director of Marketing & Attraction leads strategic marketing and business attraction efforts designed to strengthen the region's visibility, reputation, and economic vitality. This role develops and executes comprehensive marketing and attraction campaigns, manages all communications of the organization, creates compelling promotional content/materials, and is responsible for developer and site selector relations. The role works collaboratively with business leaders, community partners, tourism and civic organizations, and internal stakeholders to promote regional assets and advance economic development priorities. Success in the role requires strong project management, communications, storytelling, relationship-building, and marketing skills, along with a passion for promoting the Bloomington-Normal community. The position also supports economic research and data analysis, using information and trends to inform strategic decisions and communicate the region's economic story. Additional responsibilities include planning and coordinating occasional events, supporting fundraising and sponsorship efforts, and assisting with initiatives that strengthen the organization's visibility, partnerships, and impact. Business Attraction
  • Developer/Site Selector Relations (30%) Travel
  • it is estimated that 10% (approximately 4-6 weeks) of the work year the position will travel to state, regional and national conferences to establish relationships with developers and site selectors. Relationships
  • build relationships with developers, site selectors, and businesses aimed at identifying and attracting prospects to our community. Strategy
  • lead business attraction strategy and execution. Awareness
  • makes prospects and the broader economic development ecosystem aware of community assets, available sites, incentives, etc. Site Promotion
  • promote available sites. Marketing & Communications (30%) Content Creation
  • create graphics and video that share the EDC's work in a visually appealing manner. Website Management
  • work to develop and maintain a top of class economic development website. Email Communications
  • craft of monthly e-newsletters that make our investors aware of the EDC's work as well as all other special communications. Social Media
  • oversee all aspects of social media accounts and implement a strategy. Branding
  • maintain the standards set forth in the EDC's style guide. Media Relations
  • maintain relations with local media outlets and keep them and their readers/listeners/viewers informed through media advisories and news releases. Economic Research & Data (20%) Location/Site Intelligence
  • produces all location/site intelligence reports utilizing Placer.ai software. Economic Impact
  • produces economic impact reports utilizing IMPLAN software. Business Intelligence
  • produces business intelligence reports utilizing Size Up software. Economic & Demographic Data
  • monitors data and trends to produce reports and guide decisions. Sources often included Census, BLS, ESRI, etc. Events (10%) BN By The Numbers
  • responsible for planning and execution of quarterly economic update events. Special Events
  • responsible for any special events or roundtables held throughout the year. Fundraising Support (10%) Investor Program
  • manages the administrative functions of the investor program and assists the CEO with investor relations on an as needed basis.
Education and Experience :
Director-level requires a Bachelor's degree in relevant field and 5+ years of related experience. Manager-level requires a Bachelor's degree in relevant field and 3+ years of related experience. Relevant degrees/fields include but are not limited to Marketing, Communications, Economic Development, Economics, Public Administration, and Business Administration. Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation or in progress preferred. OU Economic Development Institute (OU EDI) completion or in progress preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Experience preferred in economic development, strategic marketing and communications, branding, relationship building or any other similar combination of experience.
Skills and Knowledge :
Excellent communication skills, especially through writing including grammar and proofing. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficient with time management and prioritization. Proficient in Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud. Proficient in MS Office Suite including SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Proficient in Meta Business Suite and LinkedIn. Proficient in analyzing data. Working knowledge of website management. Working knowledge of budget management. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to think and execute strategically. Ability to solve problems and take initiative. Comfortable with public speaking.
Physical Requirements:
Attendance at morning or evening meetings/events outside normal business hours is required. Ability to travel extensively and must possess a valid driver's license and transportation. Ability to work at a desk on a computer for prolonged periods. Ability to lift up to 35lbs.
Pay and Benefits:
Starting base salary range is competitive at $75,000 to $95,000.
