You'll have the opportunity to do just that at California Miramar University! You'll work closely with the Marketing Manager to understand social media algorithms, stay ahead of trends, test different types of content, and discover what drives engagement. California Miramar University (CalMU) is seeking a Creative Content & Social Media Specialist to create engaging, brand-consistent content for social media, digital communications, university events, and promotional initiatives. This hands-on creative role is primarily focused on social media, short-form video production, photography, and digital design . The specialist will plan, capture, and edit visual content; develop and publish engaging social media posts; and design branded promotional materials, including flyers, social media and email graphics, banners, and digital signage. Content will include a combination of planned promotional campaigns, program highlights, student and faculty stories, and coverage of campus activities and events as opportunities arise. The successful candidate will be a creative and organized visual storyteller who can manage projects from initial concept through publication. A portfolio demonstrating relevant graphic design, photography, social media, and video work is required at the time of application. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Video, Photography, and Social Media Plan, film, and edit short-form videos for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other digital platforms. Develop creative concepts that highlight CalMU's academic programs, students, faculty, and university community. Capture photographs and videos for planned content, interviews, campaigns, and campus events as needed. Create and publish content across CalMU's social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Maintain a practical content calendar aligned with university priorities and marketing initiatives. Create platform-appropriate content, including Reels, Stories, carousels, graphics, videos, and captions. Monitor comments, messages, and mentions and route questions to the appropriate department when needed. Stay current on relevant social media trends, platform updates, and content formats. Digital Design and Promotional Materials Design branded promotional materials, including flyers, social media graphics, email graphics, banners, brochures, presentations, and digital signage. Adapt creative materials for different platforms, audiences, dimensions, and formats. Maintain consistency with CalMU's brand guidelines across all creative materials. Organize and maintain templates, photographs, videos, logos, and other creative assets. Prepare print-ready files and coordinate basic specifications with print vendors as needed. Incorporate accessibility practices, including captions, alt text, readable typography, and appropriate color contrast. Website and Email Content Make routine content updates in HubSpot CMS, including updating copy, replacing images, and publishing approved content. Format and publish blog posts, program highlights, faculty profiles, student success stories, and other university content. Create graphics and supporting content for university email communications. Review published content for accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and proper formatting. Content Performance and Collaboration Review basic social media performance measures, including engagement, reach, views, and audience growth. Provide regular content-performance summaries and use results to improve future content. Collaborate with university departments to identify content needs and gather information, photographs, videos, and stories. Support marketing campaigns by developing requested creative materials. Manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Portfolio demonstrating relevant graphic design, photography, social media, and short-form video work. At least two years of relevant professional experience in content creation, graphic design, social media, marketing, communications, or a related field. Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience. Hands-on experience filming and editing short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube. Experience creating digital and promotional materials, including flyers, social media graphics, banners, and email graphics. Strong photography, visual storytelling, and content-development skills. Strong writing skills, including the ability to create clear and engaging captions and promotional copy. Familiarity with social media analytics and platform insights. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple assignments and work both independently and collaboratively.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience creating content for higher education, education-focused organizations, or other student-facing brands. Experience using HubSpot, WordPress, or another content management system. Experience using AI-assisted design, image, or video tools. Basic knowledge of accessibility, SEO, and print-production requirements.
COMPENSATION
The pay scale for this position is $25.00 to $30.00 per hour. Actual compensation within this range is determined by qualifications, relevant experience, and internal equity.
