Job Description

OVERVIEW
: Detail-oriented, highly proactive, organized, and problem-solving assistant to help manage my growing renovation & design business. The ideal assistant would be someone who loves or wants to learn about interior design and renovations and has a strong visual and design sensibility. You should be able to recognize what looks cohesive and elevated, notice when a room, finish, styling choice, photo, or detail feels off, and understand which options best fit the overall design direction. You should also understand how to edit and work in social media, including Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest. I'm looking for someone smart, resourceful, and eager to learn—someone who can figure things out independently, use good judgment, and proactively move work forward. This person should be comfortable using AI and other technology to research, solve problems, organize and tag content, edit photography and video, improve systems, and make information easier for me and the rest of my team to find and use.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications and Skillsets Required:
Project management, administration, operations, or personal assistant experience Experience supporting a busy founder, executive, or small-business owner Self-starter with the ability to wear many hats and context-switch based on shifting priorities throughout the day Highly proactive, resourceful, organized, and comfortable taking ownership Strong interest in interior design, renovations, real estate, or construction Strong visual judgment and design sensibility Ability to notice details, understand design intent, and recognize when something looks incorrect, unfinished, poorly styled, or out of place Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment and figuring things out without waiting for step-by-step instructions Strong attention to detail and ability to manage tasks, follow-ups, calendars, expenses, files, and project information Comfortable using AI and other technology to research, solve problems, organize information, edit content, and improve systems Social media platforms and tools including Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, Squarespace, and Canva Photo and video editing, including reviewing existing content, improving images, selecting the strongest assets, and recognizing unflattering or unusable photos Ability to organize and tag photography and video so that content can be found and used easily Affiliate marketing platforms including LTK and ShopMy, or the ability to learn them quickly Copywriting for social media, blogs, email, websites, or future long-form assets Ability to create simple, beautiful graphic designs, mood boards, or storyboards in Canva using existing templates Spanish-speaking is a plus because the role may involve communicating with Spanish-speaking contractors and construction workers Not all qualifications will be expected for entry-level applications. Please be aware of the qualifications and comfortable with an approach to build aptitude toward the platforms or systems quickly.
More Details:
My name is Blythe, and I buy, renovate, and design houses in the Hamptons, and then either sell them or hold onto them to rent as Airbnbs. I manage and oversee every part of the renovation and design process, including layouts, materials, finishes, fixtures, furnishings, styling, sourcing, budgeting, and construction decisions. Additionally, I work as an Instagram creator, sharing my projects and the journey. My handle is @blythebuilds on Instagram, where I have over 20k followers. I am also hired as a consultant to help clients with their renovation and design projects. I'm looking for my next assistant and right-hand person—someone who can own and drive things forward, use good judgment, and become increasingly independent as they learn the business. I've had virtual and remote assistants, but I'm looking for someone who can be on-site either in the Hamptons or near my primary residence in Connecticut. The role can be part-time or can grow to full-time, depending on the fit. Ideally, you would live on Long Island or in Connecticut, but this is somewhat flexible. You will need to be able to work with me in person at one of those two locations once or twice a week. I live in Connecticut with my husband and our three kids, but personally go out to East Hampton, where the majority of our properties are located, about once a week. We also spend several months there over the summer.
Job Expectations:
CORE RENOVATION BUSINESS
Calendar management and scheduling Task management and proactive follow-up across projects and Blythe's calendar Expense management for client work and property renovation projects Organizing project information, design selections, product links, receipts, orders, vendor details, and other documentation Creating or updating simple mood boards, product boards, and design presentations Coordinating with contractors, vendors, designers, cleaners, photographers, brands, and other project partners Airbnb and VRBO remote property management, including calendar coordination with cleaners, improving automated systems, guest communications, ordering supplies, and helping resolve operational issues Brand coordination for gifted or discounted renovation products, including tracking products, timelines, information, and deliverables Using AI and other tools to research questions, organize information, create systems, and solve problems more efficiently Assisting during renovation site visits and documenting decisions, measurements, problems, open items, and next steps Helping identify design or installation details that look incorrect, incomplete, inconsistent, or not aligned with the intended result
TBD:
Attending on-site meetings when Blythe is not local to provide input, feedback, and clear project updates
SOCIAL / MARKETING SUPPORT
Google Drive asset management and organization for photography, video, design, and project assets, including tagging photo and video assets for Blythe and social media agency to easily find and use them Assistance at video or photo shoots, including helping ensure shot list was fully captured, stage rooms, setup products, and oversee details Editing and improving existing photography and video assets and/or editing for non-managed social media channels (Instagram, TikTok and YouTube are primarily managed by agency) LTK and ShopMy affiliate marketing management: post strategy, insight review, approach recommendations Pinterest management: post strategy, insight review, approach recommendations Reviewing content to identify strongest videos and photos, remove unusable or poor quality assets, and identify opportunities for new captures Capturing simple photo or video footage when needed Notion reviews and project management of the social media calendar from the agency CRM development using ManyChat, email tools, and other systems to drive new revenue streams In the future, this role could expand based on the candidate's interests and skill set. If that is renovations, design, project management, property management, influencer marketing, digital products, or another area, I'm happy to tailor the role and provide long-term growth opportunities once the baseline responsibilities become easier and easier to execute.
Requirements and Working Hours:
This person must be US-based and able to work with Blythe in person in either Connecticut or the Hamptons approximately once or twice per week Part vs full time hours and exact required # of weekly hours is flexible based on finding the right fit Schedule and pace will vary depending on the projects and involvement of the assistant: renovation site days, installation days, photo-shoot days, or travel days may begin earlier, run later, or involve a long day. These can typically be scheduled 1-2 weeks in advance. Airbnb guest requests can occasionally arise during evenings or weekends. Most are handled by on-site property managers, but this person may need to help coordinate or step in when an issue requires additional attention Overall responsiveness, flexibility, proactivity, follow-through, and willingness to help when occasional early, late, or weekend needs arise will be evaluated as part of the role.
