Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, and Yonkers Schedule:
Two Saturdays per month, 12:00-2:00 PM • September 28th 2026 - December 2026 About Veronica Arts Media Veronica Arts Media (VAM) is a nonprofit organization that gives young people the training, tools, and platform to tell stories that matter. Through media arts education and workforce development, we help youth build real production skills and turn them into pathways for their futures. About the Fellowship The Media Changemakers Fellowship is a paid civic engagement and digital media program funded by The New York Community Trust. Over the course of the program, Fellows learn media literacy and hands-on production while building a media campaign — a short film, PSA, or social media series — on a civic issue they choose. Fellows also learn how local government works, attend municipal meetings, engage directly with elected officials, and present their finished campaigns to peers, community members, and public leaders. Sessions are held twice monthly on Saturdays at the Mount Vernon Public Library. Snacks are provided at every session, and all field trips are free of charge. What Fellows Do Attend twice-monthly Saturday sessions and participate actively in training and workshops Learn media literacy, video production, editing, and campaign strategy Research a civic issue affecting their community and build a media campaign around it Attend field trips, including a city council meeting and a media industry site visit Present their campaign at a culminating public screening What Fellows Receive A stipend upon completion of the semester Internship credit, usable for high school requirements or résumé building Mentorship from working media professionals Résumé support and connections to VAM's network for youth pursuing civic, political, or media opportunities Consideration for part-time employment with VAM as teaching assistants A culminating screening event with awards, open to family and friends Who We're Looking For Youth ages 16-24 living in or near Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, or Yonkers Interest in media, storytelling, film, journalism, or social media — no prior experience required Curiosity about issues affecting your community and a desire to do something about them Reliable Saturday availability A Note on Commitment We offer a limited number of reduced-commitment spots for applicants who can't commit to the full schedule. These Fellows attend field trips, support the final screening, and participate roughly once a month — and still earn internship credit. Indicate your interest on the application.
