El Cerrito, CA Job Details Part-time $25 - $40 an hour 8 hours ago Qualifications Student supervision Behavior management Employee relationship building Working with students Choreography Working with youth Full Job Description Contra Costa Civic Theatre Education (a division of Contra Costa Civic Theatre, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization) is looking for passionate, kind, and experienced Music Directors for our education classes and productions! Currently, CCCT Education offers classes and production opportunities for ages 5-19. Schedules vary per class, but generally fall in the after school range on weekdays or weekends and are between 1-3 times per week for 45 minutes to 3 hours per class, plus paid prep time as needed. Currently, we are especially interested in candidates available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and/or Fridays from 4:30-6:30 PM and/or Sundays from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM. All classes take place on site at Contra Costa Civic Theatre in El Cerrito (about 5 minutes north of Berkeley). The general responsibilities and requirements of each position can be found below:
Job Description:
The Music Director is responsible for teaching, rehearsing, and overseeing all musical aspects of the production, ensuring the cast and orchestra (when applicable) deliver a cohesive and high-quality musical performance. This is a seasonal, part-time, hourly position, located on-site at CCCT.
Responsibilities Overview:
Music Director duties include but are not limited to: Attend auditions, production meetings, music rehearsals, and performances. Lead and conduct all scheduled music rehearsals. Collaborate with the Director and creative team to develop the musical vision for the production. Select audition materials and assist in evaluating performers' vocal abilities during auditions. Teach all vocal music to the cast, ensuring age-appropriate vocal technique and healthy singing habits. Assist performers in learning harmonies, rhythms, diction, and musical interpretation. Work with the Director to integrate music into staging and choreography. Communicate with the Director and Stage Manager regarding rehearsal progress and any musical concerns. Provide rehearsal tracks or practice materials to performers as needed (predominantly for songs with harmonies.) Coordinate with the Choreographer to ensure music supports dance rehearsals and performances. Rehearse and conduct the pit orchestra or supervise recorded accompaniment, as applicable. Coordinate with the Sound Designer to address microphone needs, balance, and vocal reinforcement. Conduct or supervise all musical performances, ensuring consistent musical quality throughout the run. Support young performers by fostering a positive, encouraging, and educational rehearsal environment. Encourage punctuality, preparedness, and professionalism among cast members. Communicate any concerns regarding performers' vocal health or preparedness to the Director in a timely manner. Maintain all spaces used during rehearsals, Supervise all students and maintain safety and discipline at all times. Proactively communicate any student issues, staff issues, and supply needs with the Director and Director of Education in a timely manner.
Experience:
The ideal candidate will have: 1+ year experience working with youth 3+ years experience in theatre and/or music Experience Music Directing for theatrical productions Formal music/vocal training Excellent classroom management skills Eagerness to collaborate and maintain positive working relationships
Salary:
This is a part-time, hourly position. The hourly salary range for this position is $25.00-$40.00.
