Job Description:
The NFSO Chorale Music Director & Conductor serves as the artistic leader of the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale. The Chorale Director is responsible for the artistic preparation, growth, and performance excellence of the Chorale while working collaboratively with NFSO musicians, staff, guest artists, and community partners to advance the mission of the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra. The Director of Choral Activities and NFSO Chorale Music Director/Conductor is directly accountable to the Chair of Fine and Performing Arts and the Music Director/Conductor of the NFSO for the following duties and responsibilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
NFSO Activities:
Plan, prepare, and conduct all rehearsals and performances of the Northwest Florida Symphony Chorale. Recruit, audition, develop, and retain Chorale members while maintaining high artistic standards. Select and prepare choral repertoire in collaboration with the NFSO Music Director as appropriate. Prepare the Chorale for performances with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, including major symphonic-choral works, holiday programs, educational initiatives, and special events. Provide musical leadership, vocal instruction, and artistic guidance to Chorale members. Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment that promotes musical growth and community participation. Collaborate with NFSO staff on season planning, production logistics, marketing initiatives, and audience development efforts related to Chorale activities. Support community engagement, outreach, and recruitment efforts that strengthen the visibility and impact of the NFSO Chorale. Work closely with the NFSO Music Director and administrative staff to ensure alignment with the artistic vision and strategic goals of the organization. Participate in meetings and planning sessions as requested by NFSO leadership. Perform other duties reasonably related to the successful operation and advancement of the NFSO Chorale.
Music Department Duties:
Commitment to artistic excellence and community engagement. Ability to inspire singers of varying backgrounds and experience levels. Collaborative leadership style and strong relationship-building skills. Enthusiasm for advancing the mission and visibility of the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and Chorale.
Job Requirements:
Master's degree in Choral Conducting, Music, Vocal Performance, or a closely related field preferred. Demonstrated experience conducting choral ensembles at a high artistic level. Strong rehearsal technique, conducting skills, and knowledge of choral repertoire. Experience preparing choruses for performances with orchestra preferred. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with musicians, volunteers, staff, and community partners. All degrees must be from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution
