The ideal candidate should possess a deep love for spiritual music, demonstrate strong leadership skills, and have a comprehensive understanding of Catholic musical liturgical practices. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the musical experience of our parish, foster musical growth among team members, and elevate the overall worship environment through vibrant praise and worship music. As Music Director, you will oversee the selection, rehearsal, and performance of music during church services and special events, ensuring a spiritually uplifting experience for all attendees. Duties Plays and/or sings music at weekend masses. Sets up microphones, instruments, and song numbers on the board. Arranges for a substitute when unable to be present. Selects music based on the readings. Prepares music sheets for the parish, if needed. Manage and mentor volunteer music teams, including vocalists, instrumentalists, and choir members, fostering their musical development through coaching and mentoring. Helps coordinate and plan the music for special feasts, services and functions in the parish/church, working in consultation with the pastor and other music personnel as requested. Purchases liturgical material from appropriate vendors. Attends monthly staff meetings and periodic liturgy meetings. Plays and/or sings music at parish funerals. Contacts the family of the deceased for special hymn requests. Plays and/or sings music at parish weddings. Consults with the couples' musical selections. Other duties as assigned by the Pastor. Select appropriate musical repertoire that aligns with liturgical themes, church calendar events, and parish preferences. Oversee the planning and execution of musical productions for regular masses, holidays, and special occasions. Coordinate rehearsals, ensuring musicians are prepared and confident for each mass or event. Maintain high standards of musical quality by reading sheet music accurately and ensuring proper vocal training techniques are applied. Foster a welcoming environment that encourages participation from all parish members interested in music ministry. Requirements Bachelor's degree in music and training in choral organization and administration. Proven experience in church service musical performance, conducting church choirs or similar groups with enthusiasm and professionalism - minimum of five years. Roman Catholic belief preferred. Strong knowledge of musical liturgical traditions, praise and worship music conducting, and Catholic mass formats. Ability to read sheet music fluently; proficiency in playing piano or other instruments is highly desirable. Punctuality, reliability, and adaptability. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail under pressure.
