Job Description
Director of Music Ministries & Primary Pianist/Organist Saint John A.M.E. Church - Frankfort, Kentucky Saint John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Frankfort, Kentucky is seeking a spirit-led, musically gifted, and collaborative Director of Music Ministries & Primary Pianist/Organist. This part-time role is central to shaping our worship experience and nurturing a vibrant, intergenerational music ministry rooted in excellence, teamwork, and spiritual growth. The ideal candidate is a strong pianist/organist, a capable choir director, and a leader who loves God, loves people, and loves using their musical gifts to build the Kingdom. About the Role The Director of Music Ministries will report to the Senior Pastor of St. John A.M.E Church Frankfort.
Responsibilities:
Provide music for Sunday worship, funerals, weddings, baptisms, and special services. Serve as the primary pianist/organist and secure qualified substitutes when needed. Select hymns, songs, and musical arrangements in collaboration with the pastors. Direct or oversee the Youth Choir and other functions. Teach parts, rehearse with choirs, and mentor musicians of all ages. Coordinate schedules for choirs and musicians; prepare monthly worship music plans. Develop annual workshops and trainings for the music ministry. Supervise the Audio-Video Assistant and coordinate sound/video/virtual service needs. Manage maintenance of instruments and sound equipment. Prepare promotional content for music ministry events. Attend staff meetings and pastoral check-ins. Serve on the Worship & Music Team and assist with planning. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Strong proficiency in piano and organ; familiarity with diverse sacred music styles. Experience leading music ministry or similar roles. Ability to teach parts, direct choirs, and mentor musicians. Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Competence with audio-video technology and Microsoft Office. Availability on Sunday mornings, weekly rehearsals and other special events as deemed by the Pastor. A humble, collaborative spirit and a desire to glorify God through music.
